  • Cotto is saying that defense will carry him to victory because he knows that he will have to cover up all night to survive and he want to forewarn the fans.

I think he knows that Pac can hurt him if he gets hit, he ain't walking through too many fluch Pac punches

Anyways, cotto should be able to walk through all of pac's punches. If cotto can't KO a former 106 lber, he needs to quit boxing.
All this story of Pacquiao coming from 106 is a truley nice story and all props to him but tha fact is that most of the boxers do that also but on a amateur level and we can all debate what type of fighters were Pacquiao facing back in those days as a proffesional compared to what other were facing as an amateur but to put a question mark, asterisk or even demand Cotto to retire just because of a possible defeat to Pacman because he started pro at 106 is annoying.

The fact is while Pacman was fighting "pro" fighters, Cotto was also fighting great amateur fighters in lower divisions while representing Puerto Rico in international boxing. During his amateur career he even fought guys like Ivan Calderon which we all know that he's just know starting to fight at 108lbs.

Another fact is that both fighters have almost the same height (only 1/2" advantage for Cotto) and have the same reach. True that Cotto is heavier probably because of his eating habits, lifestyle or metablosim, hell you don't know could be a lot of different circumstances for that.

The circumstances of which these boxers choose to go along with their careers whether it was thru Proffesional or amateur we do not know, Probably Pacquiao turned Pro because his family needed the income and Probably Cotto didn't because his father being in the armed forces could provide to all his family.

Probably Pacquaio didn't have the advantage Cotto had by having a good amateur boxing infrastructure in his country and was not able to be in a special athlete school like Cotto did.

But to start screaming and demanding retirement to a boxer just because the possibility to lose to an ex 106 fighter (being Cotto an ex 106 lbs fighter himself but as amateur), which by the way happens to be the best p4p and his last victory was against a 140 that had fought at 147, not only is it not fair to Cotto but it is also lack of knowledge while comparing 2 different careers.

          • Let me clarify some comments from some peoples. Cotto does not need to cover to avoid all the speed of Pacquiao. Cotto will use a good defend to counter punch Pacquiao and later on in round 6-8 with a vicious KO to the liver followed with a right straight punch to the head. Cotto will remained welter weight champion and a new WBC diamond champion. The poor Pacquiao will be taken to the hospital unconscious with the horrendous KO. Sorry Pacman, and congratulation for the big balls that Gayweather never had.

c'mon man. cotto has no business losing to anyone under WW; especially a dude that used to fight at 106 lbs.

(being Cotto an ex 106 lbs fighter himself but as amateur),
2 years ago pac was fighting at 130-135 lbs... cotto was a bonafide 147 lber. it will be shameful for cotto to lose.

which by the way happens to be the best p4p and his last victory was against a 140 that had fought at 147,
cotto says hatton is overrated and dlh was weightdrained.

not only is it not fair to Cotto
cotto should be fighting real WWs then. I'm glad cotto will get his payday tho, because that's all this fight is for him win or lose.

but it is also lack of knowledge while comparing 2 different careers.
bottomline, cotto has no business losing to anyone under WW.

As far as i can remember it was ODLH who calls out Pacman and they agreed to fight at 147. Moreover, according to ODLH team he's been in welterweight limit 1 or 2 months before the fight. In this case ODLH is the draw and the one who calls the shot not Pacman. And i think what Pacman did was reasonable to make it a catch weight since the weight difference of the two is too much. So don't blame Pacman fighting a "weight drained?" ODLH.
