my list if he wins:
1.salvador sanchez
2.JCC
3. ricardo lopez
4.JMM

It would be a huge win but he wouldnt be toping like Ricardo Lopez or the great Salvador Sanchez. I dont know about JCC but I dont think it would put him ahead of him.

Don't get me wrong..... I would be the first to tell you that JMM is 1 of the best of this generation, infact I think he beat Pac, BUT.... and it is a big but!!! You obviously haven't seen a lot of older fighters especially older Mexican fighters to say that JMM would be a top 5 ATG!!!
that is why I say ATG isn't the word you need,
more like best of the past 6 years!!!!!
you straight now kid????Last edited by Me La Pelan; 08-18-2009, 02:35 PM.

Look Gomez went up in weight to fight a bigger Sanchez and Gomez was known for power, on the other hand JCC went up to Light weight to fight the reknown hard hitting Rosario. He went up to fight the hardest hitting Champ, the other champs at the time were Camacho (who avoided JCC at any cost), and Vinny P had just beaten Haugen and were going into the rematch. Then he unifies against a hard hitting Ramirez who at the time had only lost to the likes of Olivares, Mancini, Camacho and Rosario. And then he Goes up in weight AGAIN to fight the hardest hitting 140# Champ Roger Mayweather for a rematch, now I ain't saying Mayweather was great or nothing but he was known for power also. The fact is that JCC fought the hardest possible opponents available, he demanded the hardest fights, and he always got them, except for Camacho, until he finally decided to fight JCC. I can go on and on. You can say Gomez was great because all his fights were KO's before Sanchez but that's ******.... that's like saying Valero is going to be an ATG too.

Originally posted by Nemisis View PostYou crazy Chups. Although I do agree that Gomez, Lopez, and Nelson were greats. The fact is that nobody can say how long he could have lasted. To say that the 3 above mentioned fighters are better than anyone JCC ever fought is not right. You have to remember the context of the fights, when Sanchez fought Nelson, NO ONE KNEW NELSON!!! It was his first big fight. Even though Gomez beat some good guys he isn't PR greatest Champion. Nelson went on to beat Gomez if you remember. And well Little Red was the best of them all at the time he fought them.

BTW I'm not crazy, JCC has his flaws too. If you think a fighter who fought bums, mediocre competition and fell short when fighting great fighters like Whitaker and Oscar is the number 1 Mexi fighter then so be it.
What he had was Charisma and a cult following but his resume isn't what you'd like to put on number 1. But of course that is my opinion and my list.

The REASON WHY MEXICANS DEBATE Sanchez's greatness is because Sanchez was eventually going to run into Chavez at super feather weight. Sanchez was about 2-3 years older than Chavez but was going up in weight from feather weight. Sanchez died in 82' and Chavez was Champ from 84 to 87 at super feather weight.
If Sanchez lived he would have gone up and fought either Chacon or Limon, who beat out Nelson vs Sanchez for fight of the year, or Camacho for the wbc. Or Roger Mayweather for the WBA. This would have to be in 83' .
Chavez would have gotten his chance in 84' against Sanchez.....
Then you can debate that Chavez might have been too GREEN for him at that time, which is around the time JCC fought Martinez, because of his experience it would have been Sanchez vs Chavez in which Sanchez would be the crowd favorite and it would be Chavez's first Championship fight ever. As it happened Martinez was indeed the crowd favorite because hardly no one knew Chavez, and Martinez had had televised fights in the US.
