Joppy was one of the best middleweights of the recent era definitely. He stopped Roberto Duran in 3 rounds, that alone is an accomplishment enough. We all know that even an old Duran is a game Duran. He also went 12 rounds with Hopkins, a much bigger man who was considered an ATG already then. And who stopped Glen Johnson btw. He also beat Howard Eastman, Julio Cesar Green, Rito Ruvalcaba, Shinji Takehara and Jonathan Reid who was then undefeated.

Even after he was past prime he stopped Etienne Whittaker in one round, with one perfect right hand. He was a victim of Trinidad's loaded gloves, it has been established as a fact now. I believe he would accomplish even more if Hopkins hadn't been fighting, rather unfairly, in the mw division. He was however a three-time champion.

C'mon, everybody can see Tito had illegal wraps in that fight. Joppy had never been KO'd before that and never has he been stopped that easy! Whatever you think about Trinidad's power, Joppy was bigger than his previous victims and it is unlikely that Trinidad had THAT much power!

William Joppy. I too thought maybe we had lost another fighter with this tribute. Thank God we havent. I remember Joppy oh so vividly. What immediately comes to mind is that back smacking pesky jab of his. He use to piss me off with that ****. Also, his run in/street fight with Teddy Reid, where Reid ended up tossing a weight of some short at Joppy.
