Jack Loew, trainer of WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik, says the October 3 title defense against Paul Williams is a very dangerous fight. This is Pavlik's third defense of the middleweight titles. The first two, against Gary Lockett and Marco Antonio Rubio, were easy. This defense will take Pavlik to the limit. [details]

Kelly Pavlik deserves a lot of credit for taking this fight. His rep depended on it. I don't have a rooting interest in this one, but I know it's Pavlik's back that is against the wall. He's the one on the skids right now, and if he loses this fight it's back to fighting on Top Rank PPVs. I think this could make him a dangerous opponent for Paul Williams. I don't think Williams is a spoiled fighter unlike guys like Berto and even Cotto up to an extent. He's had to work his way up the hard way. But HBO is back on the gravy train now that he avenged his loss to Quintana. I don't know how much hunger he's got to stay on top without getting knocked off again, and this fight will answer that.

Seems like Loew is acting very humble towards Team Williams, whereas they were talking trash about Kelly. Paul is taking it home. Kelly just won't know how to react to a guy who won't back down.

The biggest thing against pavlik in this fight for me is that Williams is a Southpaw. Pavlik has only fought 1 southpaw before in McKart and had a hard time landing on him.

It's good he recognizes that. Surprisingly a lot of ppl seem to think P Dub will get knocked out. With his movement, workrate and ability to punch from awkward angles I'm predicting he'll comfortbly outpoint Pavlik. If he could make Winky look ordinary, who's a much cleverer boxer than Pavlik then the Ghost should be simple work for Williams

Winky is not a much more clever boxer than Pav....he has a better D and jab that's it. So clever that he never finishes his big fights strong? Pav was able to do TWICE what WW couldnt do and that is beat JT and stop him one of those times ..
