truth is spoken here ^pacquiao was the #1 guy at 112 , 126 , 130 and now 140.
cotto has NEVER been the #1 guy in his division.
pacquiao has beat 3 guys considered top 10 p4p at the time he fought them.
cotto has NEVER beat a guy in the top 10 p4p when he fought them.
cotto has a good resume. it's not fair to compare him to pacquiao's though.
pacquiao suffers from the fact that most of his wins come with relative ease.
people tend to think less of an opponent when one wins so easily.
floyd suffered from the same problems. his wins cames so easily that it's easier to diminish or discount the opponent.
cotto struggles with almost every decent fighter he faces so it makes it seems like he's fighting the best competition.Comment

Cotto's resume is not bad. But the names in his win list are not as big as the one's Pacquaio fought possibly with the exception of Mosley. Barrera, Marquez, Morales and Hatton were on the P4P list and will all probably be on the HOF. We don't know if Margarito will be able to bounce back from the plaster controversy and it has tainted his name. Pacquiao's resume is more impressive because of the bigger names.Correct, but I still don't see how Pacquiao's resume is overwhelmingly beyond Cotto's truthfully. At WW alone Cotto's fought the who's who of the division with only 1 loss in that time frame. Both have fought tough fighters and both have 1 loss on their resume dating back the last 4-5 years if you want to go back that far. Pac, Barrera, Marquez, and Morales were all current and former champs, as Zab, Mosley, Margarito, and Clottey were as well in all.
Again, it's based on what the individual sees as being a better resume. Personally, I think Cotto's fought more of a variety of styles with losing just 1 of those fights.Comment

it's true though , el.
think about cotto's biggest name opponents and when he fought them.
i give him props for fighting marg last year and clottey this year.
BUT people often trump up how he fought zab and shane as part of their argument of how cotto fights only the best.
zab was coming off 2 straight losses and a NC with a nobody when he fought cotto.
shane had barely came back down to 147 from 154 when cotto fought him. shane was barely putting his career back on track because people thought he was already shot.Comment

Now, the only plausible reason to me that anyone would bring up a comparison between Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao's resumes would be because they're about to fight. I don't think I feel a comparison is valid, though.
Manny has been a smaller fighter. He's fought some great little men but this isn't an analysis of his resume out of context.
Likewise, you're not asking me to just measure Miguel's career accomplishments.
You're saying Miguel Cotto's resume vs. Manny Pacquiao's resume, in context of their upcoming fight- and to me, that's silly. What Manny achieves at 147 will garner him the credit he deserves- should he even be able to get past Cotto. I have little doubt, though, that Miguel would have slaughtered almost every opponent Manny has ever faced due to a sheer size difference.
For most of Manny's opponents, facing Cotto wouldn't even be fair, logical, or practically legal. So how on Earth can I compare those victories to those of Miguel? The weight is too much of a factor.
If you're asking for a pound for pound debate Pacquiao wins that resume crown based sheerly on the variety of opponents he's beaten at the different weights moving up - Diaz, DLH, and Hatton (though the Oscar victory is skewed due to weight drain).Comment
