yep, yep. Have seen that fight and it did show Gatti was a decent technical boxer when he needed to be.

Only with Roy, it was his athletic talents and speed/reflexes, obviously.

Can't say I blame him ; I'd be intoxicated with my natural talent too if I were anywhere near the freak that Jones was in his prime.
That's the biggest difference between Ali and Jones: Ali adjusted the way he fought when his speed and reflexes started to slide and had several more years of success as a result. Jones didn't adjust and got starched.

Well that was my confusion about RJJ if he knews the basics then why did he rely so much on natural ability and not revert back to what he learned as a kid when he needed more than his speed.

Some fighters are just never able to come to grips with tha reality. Hell, look at Evander.

Well Holy can at least say he gave a current strap holder a decent argument but RJJ hasn't really been competitive at the highest level since the first Tarver fight and that was what 5-6 years ago. I don't think Roy is ****** which makes me wonder if his previous trainers post Roy sr didn't teach him anything.

That says more about the state of the current Heavyweight division than anything else. It's not amatter of Roy being ******, it's just that like many fighters he mentally can't except that his body just doesn't work the way it once did. The heart overrules the head in these matters frequently.

Partially true about the hws because Wlad looks like he could be the next dominant champ for a while. Roy on the other hand needs to stop getting in there with guys like Lacy that will fool his ego into thinking he's as good as he once was. He either needs to fight an elite guy at lt hw like Dawson or retire. Beating up journeyman and shot guys will pad his bank account but do nothing for his legacy and wasn't Roy all about his legacy in his prime?

It frequently makes for a change of tune as a fighter ages: It becomes less about legacy and more about trying to score one last big payday.....that and an unwillingness to admit their run is over and they pick opponents that they can fool themselves with into thinking they can still get it done.
