Sturm and TV Troubles Spell Tough Times For Universum

WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm dropped a bombshell this week when he announced that he would be leaving German-based promotional company Universum. Sturm told German tabloid paper Bild, that he would not extend his contract when it runs out in a few months time and wished Universum well. The promotional firm sent out a press release response that disputed Sturm’s position. [details]

Universum is in big trouble if Sturm departs. What's worse for boxing is the apparent budget-cuts from broadcaster ZDF. This might ultimately devalue boxings worth in this big market and influence the price of new deals for Sauerland (ARD) and K2 (RTL).

Bad news pump. Red K coming up

This is really bad. Now I see why they were protecting Sturm for so long, he was there main cash cow. Well they do have no one but themselves to blame themselves for Sturm leaving because even if they were making money they was basically wasting all of his talent.

Exactly my thoughts. Sturm wanted more than one ABC belt and a matchup with Abraham would have been a major event. But he was protected for a reason - cash cow.

Let's see where he goes now, and if he gets better opposition than Sato in MW with his next promoter.
