I do think Margarito stunned him with a right hand in the 11th round.

Williams did a great job of fighing him off and recovered enough to take the 12th round to seal it.

    • This could go back and forth or be a one sided beatdown. But Williams ain't KO'in Pavlik. He's not that powerful. I think a lot of people are forgetting that when you throw more punches, you open yourself up to be countered. Look at all the defensive specialists in the sport now and you'll notice that they are very economical with their punch output. B-Hop, Mayweather, Winky, etc don't throw ridiculous amounts of punches per round because they'll open themselves up to be countered. So P-Will's output could work against him in that regard. But, a lot of times output is all that's needed to win a round so who knows.

11th round shot to the head stunned him. Paul admitted himself post fight with Merchant that he got stunned. He also bowled over from a wicked body shot in those rounds. I'm still amazed at how many people have missed those. It was clear as day, I felt those shots for Paul watching it live.

The point of my sarcastic post was that Margarito only did any damage because I honestly feel he was plastered up. He said pre-fight with Larry that he felt Paul was a tougher fight than Cotto and then you see those championship rounds and how he comes on and so...

this is dumb as hell for so many reasons. first of winky throws **** loads of punches, only in his last two fights has he been unable to throw in bunches. perhaps bcuz of williams outdoing him in his last and BHop moving and being an elusive target in the second. but my point is winky at his best throws alot.

and more importantly pavlik cant counterpunch anyways, so it doesnt really matter if u are paul williams. if he was fighting abraham he might be in trouble, but not kelly. when ppl throw in bunches against him he just covers up and leans back leaving himself unable to throw any good counters. u also need to have good D to be a good counterpuncher which pavlik does not.

Yeah that was a huge mistake by the pavlik camp, assuming they would be able to stop hopkins was a ridiculous gameplan.

But i just think paul williams go's into fights and just thinks if i just punch more then the other guy i will win. Which is a good gameplan if your fighting people like winky wright, kelly pavlik is alot more dangerous then winky.

            • I don't think Pavlik has a bad chin. He hasn't ever been knocked out.

There are so many people on these forums who don't know anything. I never said Pavlik was a master counterpuncher. But people are acting as if P-Will has the skills of B-Hop, which is laughable. P-Will's boxing abilities are overrated. If he had real boxing abilities he'd use his height to his advantage so he could get some power on his punches. Instead, he chooses to fight small which takes some pop off them. His choice, so be it. Secondly, his defense is trash too. His only defense is hoping throwing all those shots keeps his opponents off him, so you don't need to be a master conterpuncher to beat him. And Winky has never been known for his offensive output. So what the hell are you talking about?! Winky doesn't have to throw a lot because he has a great jab to work behind. The last exciting fight Winky was in was against Jermain Taylor! And that's because Taylor took it to him. If you make Winky fight, he will. Pavlik may not be a great counterpuncher, but he can take a shot and give one back. Say what you want about his skills, but his 1-2 against P-Will's nonexistent D gives him a shot.

he was hurt by both hopkins and taylor, neighter of which are big punchers. on the other hand he took bombs from edison miranda.

its kinda interesting though, hes never been hurt from a punch to the chin or jaw. even by guys like miranda. but taylor, a much lesser puncher was able to hurt him behind the ear. and hopkins to the temple.

first of all, yes winky throws in bunches. if u think otherwise i advice u to watch some of his fights. i agree on williams' skills though. but not the winky-taylor fight. taylor only fought in spurts then layed back against the ropes, winky took it to him not the other way around. winky never fights hes a straight up boxer. that said hes not hard to find, hes right in front of his oponents, but blocking shots. trying to hit without being hit, boxing. and williams can be countered, but pavlik isnt the man for the job. its very hard to counter ppl who throw lots of punches no matter how open they are cuz u are just trying to get out of the way.

Fair enough. The Winky-Taylor fight was give and take with the both of them. Taylor would attack and Winky would go in his turtle shell D. Then Taylor would lay and ropes and Winky would go to work. Like the Cotto-Clottey fight. Winky throws punches, but he likes to cover up in the tight D and stick that jab in his opponents face. Can't blame him because he has long arms to be his height. Is Pavlik the man to beat Williams? I don't know. No one knows how Pavlik will deal with Paul's output and no one knows how Paul will deal with Pavlik's power. Idk. I'd like to know what kind of shape Pavlik's in before I make a call. He seems unmotivated since the B-Hop loss in my opinion.
