A clean shot? Did you watch the f'n fight? The guy was going backwards and he flicked his right hand at him. You MMA guys who defend the indefensible kill me.

Griffin is mostly a grappler who tries to brawl in order to please the fans, he has a weak chin and no power so he was perfect for Silva. Your friends must not watch much MMA is they favoured Griffin, he was a big underdog.

Actually Griffin isnt much of anything. Hes considered DECENT at everything, not particularly good at anything.

And to the thread starter, I have no doubt that a mid-level cruiser would wipe the floor with a guy like Griffin.

There are a 2 major difference between MMA and boxing.

1. The fighters at MMA are basically fighting with bare knuckles. I was just thinking that HBO did a special on Luis Resto, who took padding off his gloves and fought Collins and beat him severely. When I saw footage of the gloves that Resto used, it looked like it still had 5-6 ounces of padding. Yet MMA fighters use gloves that has less padding. So the probability of ko are higher.

2. MMA fighters do not get standing 8 count to regroup. So, it makes it look like MMA fighters are less able to withstand punches. Can you imagine how many boxing matches would have been stopped if they took away a boxers chance to clear his head.

Resto also had bricks in those handwraps of his. And the padding was alot less than 6oz. And Resto is a PROFESSIONAL BOXER not an MMA'er. Hes going to hit significantly harder.

And glove size has very little do with KO's. In fact, its actually been proven that with bigger gloves you can actually transfer more momentum and even hit harder than if you were bareknuckle. The assertion that MMA guys are at more risk of being KO'd is ******. They get KO'd because they arent for the most part strikers and dont have the punch resistance, recovery and chin to withstand the kind of punishment that a pro boxer endures.

In boxing, you cant cut it with a bad chin. In MMA, you can conceivably rise to the top of the food chain without getting your chin tested. Thats impossible in boxing.

There's mmore force behind a punch with gloves on, Because of the extra weight, but it is more spread out and cushioned by the padding, so the ko power is reduced.
It's like hitting someone in the jaw with a 5lb metal bar and a 6lb metal bar with a 1lb cushion of some kind covering it... The lighter bar with nothing on it would still cause more damage because of the harder surface material, agreed? Well, it's the same thing as a bone punch and a gloved punch

it's much easier to knock someone out with no gloves, and even easier to create cuts with no gloves

not to mention it takes much less effort to throw a punch without the added weight of gloves

Boxing is just boxing, it is what is and it will continue to be what it will. MMA tries to implement all aspects of legal street fighting. Both sports however do take that you have something going for you. MMA has evolved while boxing has stayed the same. MMA is not for everyone just as boxing is not for everyone.
How people are shocked that Lesnar is a champion should be of no shock as we have Vlad Klitty as a champion too.
