Every elite fighter AT there best weight that he has fought, have beaten him, close and disputed or not, he has never done enough to win.

Over the years he has collected losses against Clinton Mitchell (which can be excused), Roy Jones Jr, Jermain Taylor twice, and Joe Calzaghe.

Now whilst losses against these fighters is not disgraceful, the man is still placed above them by many fans, in particular Calzaghe and Roy Jones? How can this be? He lost against the two fighters who are always being compared against him, as to who the best fighter between 160-175 of this generation has been. By process of elimination, Hopkins is clearly below both due to the fact he lost to them. No ifs or buts, his name is on Jones' and Calzaghes resume therefore is below them. Also before we get the Nard nuthuggers coming in saying he didnt actually lose to Joe. Guess what, he did, he started feigning low blows and couldn't keep up with the pace, and lost a close but clear decision.

Now, onto his wins. On paper he has some very good names on his resume, but the majority of these are just that, decent on paper.

His two biggest wins came against blown up welterweights in DLH and Tito, and anyone with half a brain knew they would lose. Tito may have destroyed Joppy, but the guy was not elite at 160, he was elite at 147. Same goes for De La Hoya, despite the fact it was fought at a catchweight of 156, he still had no business being in the ring with Hopkins, the naturally much bigger man.

Kelly Pavlik and Winky Wright. With all due respect are very good fighters, but both fought outside of there best weights, and to add to this, Pavlik was sick/ill. Winky, a blown up junior middleweight fighting against Hopkins at very near on Light Heavyweight, a fat puffed up version of the man who dominated light middleweight. Pavlik to add to this, was always overhyped, and is a come forward slugger, someone who's style is tailor made for Hopkins.

Glen Johnson and Tarver, two RIDICULOUSLY overrated fighters. Johnson is a come forward slugger, and was embarassed by Hopkins. Tarver has just never been much good.

      And that's it.

Now this isn't to bash on the abilities and skills of Hopkins, as the man is a very good fighter, however, his resume does not put him Calzaghe.
I agree with majority of the stuff you said.

Pavlik isn't great imo. Johnson though has a lot of loses is still a tough fighter.
His resume is better than Calzaghe's but like you said most of his big wins are severely overrated.

Tarver is elite, he beat a prime Roy Jones.Jr. He is definitely a ATG fighter. Against dawson he was not motivated and rich, no more hungger.

If Bernard's resume isn't that good, then no one else in the game is either because his resume is better than 99.999% of any active fighter today.

No its not. Its empirically based.

Tarver's biggest win before Roy was who?

                Eric Harding? Montell Griffin?

                GTFO.

Tarver beat everyone in the LHW division during his time there. What else was he supposed to do?
