The loss would hurt Pacquiao much, much more. If Cotto loses, he would have lost to the best pound4pound fighter in the world and he still would get a lot of other fights coming his way.

If Pacquiao loses, his super fight with Mayweather (That's if Mayweather wins as expected) would be off.

Pacquiao vs Mayweather is something boxing wants and some may even argue NEEDS. So I think that Pacquaio and Mayweather are both being set up with beatable opponents so the talks can begin for a super fight between the two.

Come on man, that's not even the same guy, you know this. In most cases I would say moving up in weight is a disadvantage but not in this one. Pac has the speed, power and quickness to really give Cotto fits.

Pac vs Mayweather is what the people want, you know this.

Pac, he will lose his fighter of the decade support, and his top 50 atg support by losing to Miguel, who is nowhere near that level.

I'm not sure here. I don't think either losing will be a big blow in terms of making fights in the future. Like others have stated, Manny and Cotto still have other options afterwards after a loss. Remember once you have a name in boxing its good for a while to keep gettting fights no matter what, see Judah/DLH.

I think the real question is how will it affect them as fighters? We have seen Taylor no longer the same after his KO to Pavlik. I can sense a little self doubt in him and the same goes for Cotto. Its going to depend on how strong mentally each guy is.
