I have watch some of Cotto's old fights and I must say that Pacquiao can beat him. Here are the reasons:
1. Cotto is a converted southpaw - Pacquiao's last three fights were: southpaw (Diaz), converted southpaw (Oscar), and pseudo-southpaw (left hand dominant Hatton). Manny Pacquiao who is born ambidextrous (adept in using both hands in his day-to-day activities), seems to be stronger when fighting left hand dominant fighters.
2. Cotto is not a predominantly counter-puncher - The only way to beat Pacquiao is to counter him. Even that can sometimes backfires, as Pacquiao has improved dramatically, countering even the counterpuncher Marquez. Cotto doesn't have the counterpunching speed, reflex, hand-eye coordination and superb timing of Marquez.
De la Hoya tried to be a counter-puncher against Pacquiao, unfortunately Oscar's physicality is of subpar standard and what makes it worst he's left-hand dominant. What's more Pacquiao can now fight backwards.
3. Cotto gets tired - Cotto has a habit of tapering off after the mid-rounds. Pacquiao has a reputation of having freakish stamina reservoir. Manny is a throwback to an era where rounds are more than a dozen.
4. Cotto is much slower than Pacquiao - Speed is an inborn gift. You can't teach speed. You either have it or you don't.
Don't expect Pacquiao's speed to diminish due to weight. Remember that since 2004, Pacquiao is used to entering the ring as essentially a welterweight (146 lbs. during his 1st Marquez fight).
5. Cotto is not physically big - Pac and Cotto has almost the same height and have an identical reach. Sure, Cotto is bulkier, but you have to remember that Pacquiao spars with middleweights, some of which he knocked down.
6. Cotto turtles - When on the defensive, Cotto enters the turtle mode. Pacquiao has long added to his offensive arsenal fake jabs, up and down feints, with 3 or 4 punch fast combos from different angles. Manny smart fast footwork also ensure of him having high percentage of accurate punches landing when faced with turtle defense (see Diaz, De la Hoya and Hatton).
7. Cotto's feet are usually planted - Pacquiao moves in and out, side to side, throwing trajectory angle power punches while moving at an unpredictable direction at an uncanny speed. Cotto's feet moves when he's on the defensive and when his arms are tired.
will see what happens when cotto lands that first jab to pacs head.......then i belive he will realize that cotto is the hardest hitting welter weight of his genaration

nobody will believe you, look at your rep it's as red as your tampoon. lol
- Manny doesn't hit hard enough at higher weights to blow Cotto out of the water like Hatton (who had major questions about his chin going into the fight)
Oscar mentioned at the end of the fight "I just didn’t care. I didn’t care if he was hitting me because I couldn’t do anything about it. Luckily he doesn’t hit hard."
- Cotto took big hits all night against Mosley who hit's harder than Pac... and got battered to a pulp by Margarito, quitting yes, but not stopped
- Cotto has a solid enough defense to prevent Pac landing combination after combination like he did against Oscar... sure he'll land, but not at the accumulation to hurt Cotto IMO
- Cotto loses rounds when he's being backed up, Manny will be staying outside then jumping in... fighting the smaller guy suits Cotto
- Pac has the tendency to start brawling when it's not necessary, if this happens he's going to get stopped
- Another thing is, Manny may be extremely mobile and difficult to find... but when he does come in to exchange his body is there to be hit, one of the only punches Oscar landed was a left hook to the body which he said hurt Pac
I honestly think the best chance of Pac winning is to box his way to a decision, and Cottos jab will be the key to the fight.
Analyzing this fight is pretty simple. If Cotto can consistently put Pac against the ropes and do damage he will win the fight in a brutal fashion. I love Pac, but he will taking punches from a true solid welterweight. I don't think his small frame will be able to withstand the punishment. On the other hand, If Pac can keep the fight in the middle of the ring and dart in-and-out I think he will box circles around Cotto and stop him in the 11th round. My early pick is Pac because I like his ability to circle away from the ropes. You can't teach athletic ability and Pac has it in abundance.
I really hope that Miguel doesn't get to badly hurt or injured by the Pacman. JAT
I'm really going to feel bad for some of the filipino fans on this site after Cotto beats Pac. Some of you are true fans and really believe in your man nothing wrong with that, but your hearts are going to be crushed on Nov 14.
I don't want to see Pac get hurt but I just want to see him get KTFO so I can laugh at the bandwagon jumpers and the dumb Cotto haters on this sight. I'm going to feel bad for the real fans but glad to see the bandwagon jumpers have a taste of humble pie.
cotto timing is very good
Also his speed is very underated
And he is very good at bullying smaller opponent and cutting the ring short.
People listen to oc9979m, he has been watching cotto for a very very long time. Its going to be a great fight, i think we will see the best and the worst from each fighter during the fight.
