His opinions are considered and dispassionate which leads *me* to trust their lucidity. I am not supremely confident Cotto will win, but certain factors give me a lot of hope. Cotto has remarkable defense, a good chin and an enormous left hook. Except for margacheato, Cotto has always managed to pull it together when it really counted. The tougher the challenge, the more focused he seems to become. We'll see.
There's going to be a lot of Filipinos crying on Nov 14.
The one attribute that will win Cotto this fight will be his timing. Anyone who thinks that Pac will be able to keep Cotto in the middle of the ring and jump in and out whenever he wants will be in for a surprise.
- Manny doesn't hit hard enough at higher weights to blow Cotto out of the water like Hatton (who had major questions about his chin going into the fight)
Oscar mentioned at the end of the fight "I just didn’t care. I didn’t care if he was hitting me because I couldn’t do anything about it. Luckily he doesn’t hit hard."
- Cotto took big hits all night against Mosley who hit's harder than Pac... and got battered to a pulp by Margarito, quitting yes, but not stopped
- Cotto has a solid enough defense to prevent Pac landing combination after combination like he did against Oscar... sure he'll land, but not at the accumulation to hurt Cotto IMO
- Cotto loses rounds when he's being backed up, Manny will be staying outside then jumping in... fighting the smaller guy suits Cotto
- Pac has the tendency to start brawling when it's not necessary, if this happens he's going to get stopped
- Another thing is, Manny may be extremely mobile and difficult to find... but when he does come in to exchange his body is there to be hit, one of the only punches Oscar landed was a left hook to the body which he said hurt Pac
I honestly think the best chance of Pac winning is to box his way to a decision, and Cottos jab will be the key to the fight.
not that you give a ****, because 9 times out of 10 guys on here don't but once I read that you wrote Cotto quit it ruined it for me, it's such bull**** man nothing he was going to say was going to let the fight continue, once the white towel is thrown it is over regardless who says what man Cotto just didn't dispute it, he got up to keep on fighting and just didn't ***** about his corners choice, he a no non sense kind of guy, an all for 1 and 1 for all kind of guy who'll stand with his people so he didn't complain but he got up to fight, how did he quit when he got up to fight, when even the ref was going to let him fight and both Cotto and Bayless stopped because of the CORNER throwing the towel in,
Fights, there is no way you can compare Cotto's defense to the non existent ones from Hatton and DLH... Ricky was completely worked out pre-fight, just went in guns blazing and got KTFO, DLH was barely awake by the looks of things, he was extremely slow reacting and offered absolutely nothing in return
Cotto's defense may not be the best, but I guarantee its good enough to prevent most lead lead lefts, Pacs jab will hardly exist IMO
How to Penetrate Cotto's Defense
"Cotto defense right up the middle - he has absolutely no defense for that, because his gloves are so wide, and fighters can punch right between his gloves," said Emmanuel Steward.
I have watch some of Cotto's old fights and I must say that Pacquiao can beat him. Here are the reasons:
1. Cotto is a converted southpaw - Pacquiao's last three fights were: southpaw (Diaz), converted southpaw (Oscar), and pseudo-southpaw (left hand dominant Hatton). Manny Pacquiao who is born ambidextrous (adept in using both hands in his day-to-day activities), seems to be stronger when fighting left hand dominant fighters.
2. Cotto is not a predominantly counter-puncher - The only way to beat Pacquiao is to counter him. Even that can sometimes backfires, as Pacquiao has improved dramatically, countering even the counterpuncher Marquez. Cotto doesn't have the counterpunching speed, reflex, hand-eye coordination and superb timing of Marquez.
De la Hoya tried to be a counter-puncher against Pacquiao, unfortunately Oscar's physicality is of subpar standard and what makes it worst he's left-hand dominant. What's more Pacquiao can now fight backwards.
3. Cotto gets tired - Cotto has a habit of tapering off after the mid-rounds. Pacquiao has a reputation of having freakish stamina reservoir. Manny is a throwback to an era where rounds are more than a dozen.
4. Cotto is much slower than Pacquiao - Speed is an inborn gift. You can't teach speed. You either have it or you don't.
Don't expect Pacquiao's speed to diminish due to weight. Remember that since 2004, Pacquiao is used to entering the ring as essentially a welterweight (146 lbs. during his 1st Marquez fight).
5. Cotto is not physically big - Pac and Cotto has almost the same height and have an identical reach. Sure, Cotto is bulkier, but you have to remember that Pacquiao spars with middleweights, some of which he knocked down.
6. Cotto turtles - When on the defensive, Cotto enters the turtle mode. Pacquiao has long added to his offensive arsenal fake jabs, up and down feints, with 3 or 4 punch fast combos from different angles. Manny smart fast footwork also ensure of him having high percentage of accurate punches landing when faced with turtle defense (see Diaz, De la Hoya and Hatton).
7. Cotto's feet are usually planted - Pacquiao moves in and out, side to side, throwing trajectory angle power punches while moving at an unpredictable direction at an uncanny speed. Cotto's feet moves when he's on the defensive and when his arms are tired.
With all due respect man....so much of this is so wrong.
- Manny doesn't hit hard enough at higher weights to blow Cotto out of the water like Hatton (who had major questions about his chin going into the fight) one KO from the former p4p #1 and his chin has questions?
Oscar mentioned at the end of the fight "I just didn’t care. I didn’t care if he was hitting me because I couldn’t do anything about it. Luckily he doesn’t hit hard."
- Cotto took big hits all night against Mosley who hit's harder than Pac... and got battered to a pulp by Margarito, quitting yes, but not stopped cotto and oscar both battered, quit and wasn't stopped yet you favor one over the other? how so? becaus of oscar's word?
- Cotto has a solid enough defense to prevent Pac landing combination after combination like he did against Oscar... sure he'll land, but not at the accumulation to hurt Cotto IMO but pac will right? how's that against him?
- Cotto loses rounds when he's being backed up, Manny will be staying outside then jumping in... fighting the smaller guy suits Cotto dont see this as a point for or against either of them
- Pac has the tendency to start brawling when it's not necessary, if this happens he's going to get stopped pac has shown maturity in his last fights if you really have been watching him
- Another thing is, Manny may be extremely mobile and difficult to find... but when he does come in to exchange his body is there to be hit, one of the only punches Oscar landed was a left hook to the body which he said hurt Pac yeah, ONE landed as you say. shouldnt that tell you how elusive pac is?
I honestly think the best chance of Pac winning is to box his way to a decision, and Cottos jab will be the key to the fight.
Cotto will be the strongest man Pac has been in with.
Hatton may have bee able to show us where strength can get you against a guy Pac, if he didn't fight like a football hooligan after 8 pints of stella artois and a sideline of pure crack. Cotto is stronger than Hatton still, Cotto could pick Hatton up and put him on the top shelf at the supermarket against Hatton's will.
I'm done picking against Pacman, but I still think Cotto should win. Even at 143 or 144 he has all the aces, imo.
