why don't massive attendance fights happen in the US?

vegas and the garden are the home of boxing that's undoubtable but the arenas are small

why are the fights in the US never in bigger arenas? whereas in europe they hold them in football stadiums and get 50,000+ they hold them in 10,000 capacity arenas in the US. was talking about this with me mates yesterday and we couldnt think why. surely more fans=more money?

For one boxing just isn't that popular in the US unless it's a megafight. Another reason could be the high ticket prices. Maybe they've figured out it's more profitable to charge more for less seats in a smaller arena than vise versa. I believe there's also some money handed over from the casinos when fights take place in Vegas.

Europe is very different from the US. You guys have soccer above anything else and then maybe boxing. We here have too many varieties. We have pro football, baseball, basketball and a grip of other sports. The US life is fast paced, Europeans don't live as fast paced as us. You guys have less to do.

        I dont know...

I have always thought they should make a big card kind of how they do wrestlemania....

A week before the fight, they do press tours in the city, meet and greets, and interactive stations at the arena of the fight.... Autograph sessions, bring in some HOF's.....

Then also do it how they did Oscar vs Steve Forbes.... Make a whole bunch of 25 dollar tickets, and sell out stadiums.... Of course have lower bowl and ringside seats regular price... But the 25 and 50 dollars tickets would get eaten up so quick.....

Maybe not 50 thousand, but maybe a basketball arena like Margs vs Mosley, and have about 22-25 thousand...

Because the fights that are big enough to hold in a 60,000 stadium get bought by the casinos for a "site fee".

Let's say for instance Pac beats Cotto and signs to fight Mayweather.

They could probably hold it in a baseball or football stadium and get 50,000 but it'll never happen because a casino in Vegas (MGM Grand or Mandalay Bay) will pay the promoter a "site fee" of a few million dollars to stage the fight at their casino. It means a lot of ******** revenue to the casino when they hold a big fight there.

If they hold the fight in a large stadium the promoter has to rent the stadium in order to stage a fight there.

It's a no brainer, get paid to have a fight at a casino or have to pay to rent the stadium.

          Case closed.

because the casinos in vegas pays more money to host the fight.

what the casinos pay is more than if they sell out 50k-100k stadiums.

i remember when the mirage got involved with buster douglas-evander holyfield fight. the mirage casino spent almost $10 mil. to hold that fight and that was almost 20 years ago.

yea more fans=more money but number of fans in the u.s. died down considerably since the heavyweight division died in the u.s.

there is a lot of money 2 b made from stadiums tho, if a fight was staged in england at wembley and each ticket was £50 then you would make 27 million on the gate alone and the lowest tickets will be tht much so you could easily make 50 million pound on the gates alone which is about 85 million dollars

yeah that makes sense i suppose - if you hold a fight in a casino most if not all the fans will spend money ******** so the casino will pay to hold it

but doesnt explain why fights in new york are in the garden rather than one of the big baseball or american football arenas in the city
