that was the entire point of my post. you are saying he isnt about money, yes he is. the belt gesture isnt some honorable humble consideration he took, like this fight, it was about buisness. there is literally no reason for this fight to happen other than money. the signifigance of this fight is really about pac. if pac loses, he loses basically nothing, cotto has everything to lose, why would he do this? Money.

Do you honestly think that Ali continued fighting too long because he needed the money? He did it because he missed the adulation. Raising your profile means far more than just money, especially when you're already very wealthy. If you don't understand that then your life must be very empty. All boxers want to be remembered for having been in great fights. After they've retired, that will mean much more to them than how much money they made, provided they have enough to live comfortably on. The higher your profile, the more people will remember you.

That's how boxing is, some guys come in heavier than others, period. I mean jesus, at least Mayweather doesn't complain that someone is going to weigh more than him come fight night. He was what... 148 for the DLH fight, and DLH was probably 160-165 which is bigger than Cotto will be when he fights pac. Even if Cotto is 145 he'll be what 158, 2 pounds lighter than he would be at 147?

Also, stop mentioning Williams at 147, because he isn't. He just fought at 160 and he's working on a potential bout with Pavlik at 160. If he was to come down to 147, it'd be a middleweight moving down to beat up on smaller men and would do nothing for his career, nor would any top WW fight him because he brings in ZERO money.

Co-sign. This discussion is getting a bit crazy so I,personally, will end my participation with the following: As I have stated before, the Cotto/Pac fight is a welterweight fight even if the fighters contractually agreed to establish 145 as the upper limit. As such, the belt should - and I believe eventually will be - on the line. At the same time I respect Cotto's position that he shouldn't have to put up the belt precisely because he is not being allowed to come in at a max of 147. And, moreover, for rejecting Pac's handlers attempts to always get their way.

I also reject those that criticize Cotto for so-called "whining," "making excuses." or "holding up the fight." While some may have genuine grievances with what Cotto said most are just criticizing for the sake of criticizing. Cotto wil not back down from this fight and if anything it is Pac's handlers that are making it more difficult. But whatever, in the end this will all be fairly academic as there is too much money involved: the fight will get done.

they both have alot to lose and alot to gain in this fight..if Pac loses then he loses his spot as P4P and his chance at another immediate big money fight and may be forced 2 fight marquez or just retire to his political career...if pac wins he sets in stone his spot as one of the best ever by beating a guy that is arguably #1 in WW...if Cotto loses it will be to the smaller man and he will most likely go directly into a rematch with margarito in early 2010 instead of being in a position to pick and choose..if he wins that just makes him the man to beat
