I thought what is implied by the rules is quite clear. It's up to the champ to agree to a bout within the weight class limit for the title.

Cotto can very well put up the belt at 145, but I imagine he feels he's made enough concessions. Going to 145 for a less than 40% cut of the purse, a fine for every pound over 145 AND to throw in the belt that was never agreed upon in negotiation, is a lot of taking.. but no giving.

He made his money agreeing to go down in weight. He has no obligation to satisfy any other demands from Team Pac. Cotto wants the big money so he had to forfeit 147. However, now it's team Pac that wants something and that leaves Miguel with some leverage - the weight limit can go back on the table.

For all this complaining, it's smart business and just the traditions of trade. I'd wish you Pac supporters would stop crying.

So if that's the case, plain & simple if one felt dishonored or disrespect don't accept the fight deal failed...So better understanding must be the key factor here, there were supposed negotiators & lawyers involved...

Its not that complicated, if Pac wants Cotto's belt then Cotto should be treated with respect as the defending champion and not have to fight compromised. As a Pac fan would you really be proud of your hero walking around with 147lb title that he won under questionable conditions?

Clearly there is motivation from Cotto to fight Pacquaio, which is why we are able to discuss this at all.

The fight should be scrapped; Pacquaio have nothing to do in the welterweight division if he does not want to fight at the welterweight limit.
In my opinion he should not be in that division regardless because he gives up too much in size.
