Hardest Jump between two divisions in boxing?

Hello and good day to my fellow boxingscene forum goers. I would like to start a debate on something concerning the weight classes. I am finding it hard to actually phrase my question, so I'll have to explain it as well:

What do you think is the 'biggest' weight jump in boxing? Obviously Lightheavy to Cruiser (think Johnson/Dawson to Haye/Cunningham) and Crusier to Heavy are substantial so we can ignore those ones. I want to focus on the divisions below 175.

Let me highlight my point with a few examples:

Even though 168 -> 175 is a full 8 pounds I feel it's not actually that much of a jump in terms of competition. Froch, Kessler, Direll are examples of three fighters who I believe could make the jump fairly well and comete effectively there. Indeed, Pascal has recently captured the 175 WBC title after he was beaten by Froch for the 168 version.

In my opinion the biggest jump has to be 140->147. It's only 7 pounds but they have to be the biggest 7 pounds in boxing. Think about it: Bradely, Hatton, Malignaggi, Khan, Kotelnik, Holt etc... Then, only 7 pounds north we have the fearsome Clottey, Mosely, Williams, Margarito (as well as Hearns in the past). How long would a fight between Mosely and Malignaggi last? Not long I should think.... What about Williams Hatton? Or Khan v Hearns?

These match ups seem grotesque but only 7 pounds seperate them! I know there have been bigger LHWs and this is a week era for the divison but I hope you can see my point?

    Thanks, discuss.

I would say going from 154lbs to 160lbs. Even though it is a difference of 6 pounds I think the height in that weight calls is a big difference. Some of the 154lbs are just heavy WW while the 160lb weight class has guys 6 foot and over in it. The pop in those punches too are big differnce in the 160lb weight class.....Lefty

jumping from 140 to 147 is always difficult i think. Because at 147 you can actually find some kind of big guys who can just make 147 with lots of work (margarito, williams, clottey etc) while 140 guys are still only relatively medium sized guys

so 147 is kind of when the dudes start getting reguarly over 5''10 or so and they are noticeably bigger than the 140 guys on average

I would say 154-160. Once you hit middleweight, guys start getting tall and very strong.

well, by sheer weight it would be from LH to Cruiser...25 pounds.

IMO, i think adjustment wise it would be either 140-147 or 154-160

The reason why jumping from 140 to 147 is the hardest is because WW division is the most loaded division throughout history. There is always talent in that division. Before this current corp, you had Oscar Tito Mosley Whitaker Forret Ike. Also the the average man is around the size of a WW, hence why there is more talent. Also WW is a prestigious division. The most prestigious title in boxing is heavyweight champion. The second would be WW

I echo all the other suggestions, but i'd like to add 160-168. I'm not talking about in the past as i know it's been done before, but right now i think it's a big step up. I can't see the likes of Abraham and Pavlik getting titles at 168 when there are the super six there along other title holders.

I would disagree with you there. I can see Abraham and Pavlik grabbing titles easily. And I don't think it's a big leap in weight for guys like them.

Well Pavlik already failed when he moved up to 170, and i guess we'll see how Abraham does in this super six tournament.

Yup. 140 - 147. You have middleweights that can hide at WW.

Even Baldomir was a bit of a problem. He was walking around at damn near cruiserweight before fights.

Zab, who should've never left 140, ended up getting eaten alive there.
