Miguel is saying here "Hey guys, I do not feel winning this fight against Manny. Let me keep the belt safe so I still have something after the fight". This is giving too much favor for Cotto.
Sadly the fight is not on 140lb otherwise Manny will gladly put the belt at stake. Manny fights anybody with or without belt, P4P.

This shows how much you know about history. You're a danger to those around you. Anyway since Pac is such a great fighter why can't he fight at 147 for the belt?

At one stage I was giving the fight to Pac by a KO in the early rounds but now I think Cotto wants to prove that Pac is not as great as most people would like to think.

I feel sorry for you. I really do. You're in a boxing forum following a sport that I'm pretty sure you genuinely love, talking about it's history and how it's "tainted of the real truth by fans like me". Yet here you have this historical fighter in front of you, a generational talent that you probably won't see for another decade or even more, and....you're proclaiming that he's overrated. Remarkable. It's truly sad cuz you're seriously missing out. Instead of marveling at the at the 8 weight divisions that he climbed since winning his first title, you're whining about why he's not climbing his 9th instead of meeting a champion more than half way. Whining about two pounds.

I feel sorry for posters like you and all haters alike. To be so blind in witnessing an all time great by a simple annoyance of his fanbase is a tragedy.

Ok. I may have worded it wrong.

                SECTION 16. SANCTION FEES
The WBO shall be paid a Sanction Fee of a rate according to the following schedule:
                a) Champion and Challenger:
                (1) Three percent (3%) of their purses with a minimum of $1,000.00 and a maximum of $150,000.00 per boxer.
For them to make the maximum amount per fighter, each one would need to be paid 5 million dollars each. You only get that with big fights. This is a big fight.

We're not even taking into account the promoter's sanctioning fee.

Section 1 pretty much tells you they can do whatever they want.

WBO Regulations of World Championship Contests Page 4 of 35
Effective for Championships Contested on or after November 11, 2008
                (9) to recommend to the President to reduce the minimum purse bid by up to 50% and to rebid a purse bid or to grant an extension to the Champion of up to 120 days for a voluntary fight If there are no qualified bids for a purse bid
                (10) To determine if a Promoter has defaulted on a Purse Bid; and
                (11) To select contestants for a vacant Championship; and
                (12) To approve the challenger for any Championship, including a replacement challenger where a challenger is unable to complete a previously scheduled World Championship fight; and

Nice try Cotto but no. IF Pac wins, it will be a LEGIT win in the eyes of boxing purists and pundits and like it or not, he WILL go down in the books as being the only man to hold titles in 7 weight classes. You all think history will care if it was won at catchweight? You think history will care that Cotto relinquished it or was stripped? IF Pac wins, 25 years from now, you think they will discredit this win because of two measly pounds? lol Sorry everyone, it won't happen.

So Mr. Cotto, go ahead, vacate it or get stripped. Either way this title WILL be on the line for Pacquiao wether you like it or not, if this fight ever gets signed. Why? Because if Pac wins, it will be a date with "No Money" Mayweather and there is NO WAY the WBO misses out on a piece of that pie. Sorry champ, it's really not up to you.....
You are wrong. As per the rules of the WBO in case of the vacant title it is a fight between the first boxers 2 classified of the organization in this case in WW that will fight for the title and they have up to 30 days to negotiate a contract. If Cotto gives up the belt, Manny will not have a chance of wining that belt by beating Cotto. He would have to fight somebody else that has a belt at WW (Mosley or Berto) or he would have to ask to be classified by the WBO #1 or #2 and then fight somebody else for the vacant title.

Another of the WBO rules is that the current champion of a non heavy weight title has up to 9 months to defend his title therefore Cotto wil not be violating that rule because it will be his 5th month as a WBO champion when he fight Pacquiao. Therefor he will still have 4 month to make his defense.

Last but most important rule in this arguement WBO regulations of weight categories for CHAMPIOSHIPS says the following:

THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS SHALL BE RECOGNIZED IN THE FOLLOWING WEIGHT CLASSES:

WELTER WEIGHT UP TO 147 LBS

These are the exact same words used by th WBO regulations.
It doesn't say that the World Championships shall be reconized UP TO 145

If Varcarcel insists on having Cotto put the title online for a fight limit at 145 he will be violating his own regulations and even Cotto will have a strong case on sueing the organization because Cotto is compying with all the regulations and Varcarcel is not.

Before reading these rules i thought Cotto should turn in the title but by reading the rules i beleive Cotto should not turn in his title and should not put the title at risk either (unless the fight is at 147). I'm sick of these organizations changing and violating their own rules and regulations just for the sake of taking advantage of the boxers and their money.

Whoever reads this and beleive i made these regulations up please go to the link below from the WBO website.

how about they settle that this way.. 145 is 2 pounds south of welterweight and 2 pounds heavier than jr. welterweight division ,

if pacquiao wins at 145 , he gets cotto's belt

and if cotto wins, he gets pacquiao's tittle .
