As for how he is mentally I can't say much as I'm not him, however, I'm sure there was a lot of Marg running through his mind during the Clottey fight, however, I don't think it was ever overwhelming him. Cotto was doing just fine in the fight up until the cut, each round was close but he was never in any danger. After the cut you saw Cotto push the action in the 4th and 6th round and looked just like the old Cotto, but if you were too blind to notice he was getting hit with massive right hands if he didn't have Clottey in the corner. Its apparent it was because of the cut and Cotto or his corner I'm sure told him that he HAD to stop taking those shots if he wanted to save his eye.

Also, Clottey has an iron chin and rock solid defense as you could see when Cotto had him in the corner in rounds 4 and 6, AND by Emmanuel Stewards commentary that the only way to really catch Clottey was on the way in. Obviously in order to get a guy coming in you have to box and back pedal which is exactly what Cotto did and in the 10th he hit Clottey with 2 solid lefts that stopped Clottey in his tracks the rest of the fight. Cotto may have had Marg in his mind during the Clottey fight and with or without the cut he didn't exactly look at his best. But, why is he supposed to against a top 3 or 4 WW, especially with that bad of a cut? Personally, I think this fight was what the Jennings fight was supposed to be in that he had to get in there and forget about Marg. Jennings was too easy and with the Clottey fight, the cut might have been the best thing to happen as it forced Cotto to dig deep and plow through it. If he looks the same in the Paq fight, w/o a cut then we know his career is over.

    WOW!..

dude with posts like this..why in the HELL are you red?!!..

This is exactly what I've been saying..but people only wanna catch the negative side of ****..NOBODY and I MEAN NOBODY has given Cotto the credit he deserves for putting Clottey on his ass in the VERY FIRST round!..WITH A JAB at that!!..yet they complain and claim how he's done..shame on these so called boxing fans!!

and as of late, well since the margo fight he has had problems.

im a huge cotto fan, and cotto fans dont hate on this becaz you know its true.

he's to mentally unstable, we all saw (plaster or not) cotto fold under the pressure of margo, and i dont blame him for it TBH, but it was the start.

then he fought clottey, clottey is a solid fighter, very underrated, but you could see in some of the rounds things that wernt "cotto-like"

cotto got hurt a ton at 140, but when he did he would always come back strong, and beat the guy.

but in some of the roundds in the clottey you can see when things arnt going cotto's way, or clottey is pressuring and cotto cant back him up, cotto tries to get out of they way, but his face you can see, its like he's worried, and he doesnt do alott of the same fighting he used to do.
i jus get a sense in that fight that cotto is damaged, not physically, i think he still hits hard, still pretty fast. but mentally.

anyway, what do you guys think.

I'm sure the wide open gash above his eye had absolutely nothing to do with Cotto that night.

I can see what the TC is saying. I agree.... He peaked as a fighter with Mosley, but then again it could have just been an off night for Mosley. Thats why that rematch is soo important but Cotto seems to not want it. Mosley is only getting older so it needs to happen soon before anything happens i.e Cotto gets destroyed by Pac or Mosley retires from the sport.

so fighting guys at 140 and fighting clottey are the same thing? bad comparison. who's the last guy that came back strong to beat clottey? nobody! marg got the decision over clottey cuz he outworked clottey but he never hurt or dominated clottey. i havent seen clottey beat up ever.

Why should Cotto want a rematch he won the fawking fight. Besides, it not his responsibility to get one especially if he won, its Mosley's and he's never approached Cotto on the subject. He beat Marg and then went straight for Mayweather and Mosley. Mosley went after Mayweather/Paq and he gets all the praise for at least trying, Cotto got the Paq fight and then people hate on him for not fighting a guy he already beat, it makes no sense.
