  • alderson is a pac-hater all his life underestimating pacquiao even before pacquiao was born. but one thing alderson missed in his analysis is that he compared boxing to a purely free-for-all affair inside the ring. he missed the thing that boxing is also known as the "sweet science" because a smaller fighter may use his boxing skills to outbox the bigger fighter. i do not have to expound on this because alderson might get insulted how to go to these basics. with the proper preparation and the boxer's innate skills, a skilled, gifted, smaller figher may win over the bigger fighter.

no doubt cotto is the bigger fighter and pacquiao is naturally smaller. this is a fact. but pacquiao has faster hands and legs compared to cotto. this is pacquiao's advantage. he will use this advantage to outbox the bigger fighter in cotto. with his terrible footwork, pacquiao will make cotto the practice target even before cotto could launch his attack. pacquiao and roach already knew how to dismantle cotto's defenses and how will pacquiao avoid getting hit by cotto's body punches. given pacquiao's performance against delahoya and hatton, who claimed to be undefeated in the 140 lbs division, pacquiao will win by knockout over cotto.

with pacquiao's agility and lightning right jabs and right hooks, cotto cannot even set up his attack because pacquiao can preempt his moves by confusing cotto with a jab or hook and his left-and-right-combo, moving either from left to right to confuse cotto. many of pacquiao's opponents have been confused by this moves. from ledwaba, barrera, morales, diaz-to delahoya and hatton.

alderson missed this. if boxing is purely a no-holds-barred-free-for-all action, a bigger fighter will always prevail. but boxing is a sweet science, this is the reason why muhammad ali wins against the likes of foreman, liston and frasier or why sugar ray leonard beat donny lalonde. a boxer's innate skills and his prepartion going into the fight is always material to the fight.

alderson should also know that skills matter in boxing not the size.

manny will have the quick lateral movement advantage that cotto will find hard to solve.!!
ever heard of "geometrical nightmare" wherein you can't find your target to box/hit!???

manny will be too fast he will spin cotto arond......left-right, in-out, spin-twist, now-u-see-now-u-dont moves!!!.
cotto will fall from his own dizziness without e3ven get hit by "razor-sharp" fists of manny!!

25K open for bet: manny >>> miguel

I don't know who will win the Cotto vs Manny fight but all I will say is that he did pick the weakest of the top welterweights out there. Manny don't want to fight Floyd, Shane, Clottey, Berto. He would get his little ass destroyed

what the f**k are u saying?!?!?
cotto is the weakest of the WW????

u should go back to basics!!!

              • the article makes valid points... I think forcing Cotto to have to go down to 143 would have been better for Manny--it would have been even smarter to stipulate that Cotto has to come into the fight at no higher than say, 147lbs (like they did with De la Hoya).. I think (don't quote me) that Cotto re-hydrates to something like 160 lbs so limiting that would have been a greater advantage for Pac. The point about backing Cotto up is only semi-valid because you don't have to overpower someone to make them back up. Fast, sharp punches from different angles can have the same effect if they are consistent. Zab Judah backed Cotto using the quick uppercut from the outside and although probably Manny doesn't have the same pop as Zab, he's probably just as quick and way more consistent stamina-wise. Manny has to fight near perfect I think to beat Cotto since he can't bully him the way Clottey did (btw that was such a b.s. decison victory) but I think Cotto moves well enough to establish his body attack and hurt Manny a bunch. If Manny ever slows down to the point where Cotto can corner him and work with any regularity (and i think he will), this fight will end early fellas...

                • So is Manny going to fight every WW at a catch weight?

                  • Good article that makes a few valid points. Thinking abit deeper about things Cotto in many aspects is a bigger version of JMM. Just as intelligent, more powerful. Pac finally bit the bullet and is fighting a credible WW, it may be his undoing.

                    • This article will serve as evidence!

If Pacquiao beats Cotto, then the writer of this article, Brett Matteo Alderson can no longer make excuses. This article proves that 145 is NOT an issue for Cotto, since he weighed 146 at the weigh-in for Clottey. Pacquiao is taking a HUGE risk and if he wins, what will Alderson say? Will he find another excuse to diminish Pacquiao?
