I didnt condone it, but I do understand being patriotic to an extent. Im a fan of boxing as a whole and to turn it into a race thing or a nationalistic thing is not good for the sport.Comment

cuauhtemoc is right Boricuas....and latinos in this forum LOL
Oh man, I need to educate now..........
The term "Latino" was adopted by the United States to refer to people that come from what is now recognized as "Latin" America. It's bull****.
The term is wrong, we are not "Latinos" because we have nothing to do with that region of the world. It's a classification that was given to us to identify and categorize us.
Just like the term "hispanic" which by the way technically refers to anyone who speaks Spanish...
So you can be from Iowa but if you speak Spanish you are technically a "hispanic".
I am not Latino, I don't speak Latin nor am I from the Europe. I am of Mexican decent or better yet............CHICANO.
So eat a ***............The difference between Latino and Hispanic:
- Latino generally refers to countries (or cultures) that were once under Roman rule. This includes Italy, France, Spain, etc. Brazilians are considered to be Latino, but are not considered to be Hispanic.
- Hispanic describes cultures or countries that were once under Spanish rule (Mexico, Central America, and most South America where Spanish is the primary language).
Believe it or not bro..France and Spain conquered Mexico and MANY MANY more "Latin-American" countries..hence why the vast majority are spanish speaking countries..you are a Latino..like it or not..[/QUOTE]
BINGO!!!!
Now you get it, see in Mexico (not Mejico) the reason you won't find a statue or street named after Cristobal Colon or Hernando cortez is because they reject the conquerors. They don't accept and love the same people that came destroyed and ****d their culture.
That's why you still see kids in Mexico named Cuauhtemoc because we believe that is our history, not Sopain or France or England......get it?
So I am NTO Latino I am Mexican or Chicano. I know in Puerto Rico history doesn't go that far back(Incorrect) but it's ok, I forgive you.
Cuautehmoc is correct. 100 years ago you will ask any person from Puerto Rico or any "latin amercian" country and they would identify themselves to be from a country not from a group of countries. It is actually very simple. Like Jack said it is a political term not a scientific one.. anyway... if it makes you feel good to call your self Latino or Hispanic or Chicano or Newyorikan thats up to you..
One thing Cuautehmoc was incorrect Puerto Rican history does go back many centuries..Last edited by Aracibo04; 07-28-2009, 05:25 PM.Comment

I am going for Cotto in this fight and I am not P Rican. I have never been a fan of Cotto, but as a Latino I feel that I have to root for him. I know manny is a great great fighter, but I believe that Cotto can put him on his back. Cotto is the underdog and he will need all of his latino heart to win! He wont take a knee!Comment
