The difference between Latino and Hispanic:
- Latino generally refers to countries (or cultures) that were once under Roman rule. This includes Italy, France, Spain, etc. Brazilians are considered to be Latino, but are not considered to be Hispanic.
- Hispanic describes cultures or countries that were once under Spanish rule (Mexico, Central America, and most South America where Spanish is the primary language).
Believe it or not bro..France and Spain conquered Mexico and MANY MANY more "Latin-American" countries..hence why the vast majority are spanish speaking countries..you are a Latino..like it or not..
BINGO!!!!
Now you get it, see in Mexico (not Mejico) the reason you won't find a statue or street named after Cristobal Colon or Hernando cortez is because they reject the conquerors. They don't accept and love the same people that came destroyed and ****d their culture.
That's why you still see kids in Mexico named Cuauhtemoc because we believe that is our history, not Sopain or France or England......get it?
So I am NTO Latino I am Mexican or Chicano. I know in Puerto Rico history doesn't go that far back but it's ok, I forgive you.Comment

I understand, but Im on NSB as a boxing fan and if you feel you have to root for the Latino fighter your credibility as a boxing fan is in question. This is an honest question, but arent the genetic differences between Mexicans and Puerto Ricans quite great?Comment

Quit rooting for British fighters then.Comment

The point be made is that using the term 'Latino' to describe the entire population of south/central america is slightly silly if you have no connection to the latin countries in europe. You wouldn't call an australian aboriginal anglo-saxon/germanic or north europeano lol
It goes both ways Cuauhtemoc..
How do you accept the term Chicano..when that refers to a Mexican-American..if this great land of United States was also ****d and taken from the Indians..guess by who?..yup..the Europeans..Just like in Central and South America..
You speak English and Spanish..2 languages derived from the great Europe..so if it's easy to consider yourself an American..why is it so hard to accept being called a Latino?
Oh and by the way, my family in Mexico does still speak an Indian dialect, from my mother's side of the family...Comment

Language being the biggest bond for me.
As a spanish speaking person, I tend to root for other spanish speaking fighters.
If that calls me credibility into question in your eyes, thats your problem, not mine.Comment
