I've just got a copy of the Glen Kelly fight, which coincidentally comes just before the first time Roy was really screened in Limey Land: The Clinton Woods bout.
When I first saw Roy I was excited by his skills and reflexes, but is the guy just a little bit dull to watch? Having all that talent, and all that physical excellence, only to squander it on boxers who shouldn't even be in the same ring?
Chris Byrd is another largely dull fighter, but I think he'd make a great support act: after all, while he's no real draw, he's a thinking man's fighter who can involve those who like the technical side of boxing. But Jones? Even when dominating a heavy (and it was John Ruiz) it became dull as soon as it became obvious how one-sided it was. Only in his last three matches has he really excited me - and those are ones he arguably lost.
I was going to try and build a collection of all his fights, but I don't know if I'll bother now... how many are classics?
some of his fights are amazing it's definitely worth building a collection of his fights
come on guys, waste of talent??? i don't think so... not because he was not able to win it all does not mean he is the dullest fighter... i bet all you rjj haters have cheered for him even for one fight...
After Roy got koed everyone jumped on the bandwagon. He was never that great no one ever said that before. He beat fighters like Virgil Hill (who went on to be Crusier Weight Champion) James Toney and he was at his prime no matter what **** he says, Bernard Hopkins, Vinny Pazienza, Montell Griffen, among others. Haters can say what they want but in 5 or 10 years people will look back at realize how great Roy really was whether they liked him or not.

Actually no, the band wagon was alive a long time before Jones got KO'd x 2.
Why is it with a thread like this you actually get people to come aboard and polarise it, accusing people of being "haters"? I opened this thread saying I was trying to build a collection of Roy's fights... is that the work of a "hater"? If you're going to join in, at least have something sensible to say, otherwise you're just defeating your own argument by your one-dimensional derisiveness.
