The Calzaghe/Lacy effect can also be thrown in......and i'm no Calzaghe fan, but i respect him. 95% of people (in boxing) were going with Lacy to KO Calzaghe. Even i was led to that train heading for a crash. After Joe destroyed Jeff, Lacy was simply labelled as 'nothing special to start with'.
People need to realise that certain fighters are just plain better. Also, the most important thing many overlook is 'styles make fights'. There is no certainty in boxing.

I'm gettin some for ya here Jr. Do the same for me. Keep em cummin all nite long man.
This will happen again if Pac beats Cotto. It will happen if Wlad loses anytime in the next two years to someone who may be better. Most fighters are not given credit by the people who watched them until years after they retire. Look at all the people who claimed Oscar and Hatton were simply too big for Manny. Afterwards everyone has pretended they knew all along Oscar and Hatton would lose.
Sometimes a fighter is simply better than the person that was supposed to give them trouble.

First, BHop been expected to lose to Trinidad and Tarver. I saw BHop winning a mile away.
2nd, CQ outboxed PW, no excuses, period.
Then PW KOed CQ, no excuses, period.
Everyone loves a war. The beauty of boxing is also found in the unexpected ending of a fight. When the underdawg wins, I love it!!!
As for people who can't appreciate what it takes to become a profesional boxer, let them talk all the shi-t they want. Over-rating or under-rating a boxer will always be a job for every boxing fan, but mostly taken by ignorant groopies who jump in a wagon everytime there is a new hype job.
In my case, I turn down practicing boxing as a sport when I was 13-14 years old, and I consider myself just a good fan.
