  • more overrated: gatti or mayorga?

both of these guys are overrated...who do u think is the most...mayorga knocked forest out in 1 match and was outboxed in the 2nd match with forest eventhough he got the decision then he was outboxed by spinks then got smacked around by trinidad..like mosley, mayorga hasnt won a fight in a couple of years to be honest

i say their evenly overrated..mayorga will never be champ again..hes too small for 160..wright ouma simms would beat him easily and now that mosley and de la hoya are back at 147 i dont see him beating them or maybe judah by a lucky punch

IMO (not to be mean) none are overrated. im a huge fan of both. mayorga has a power punch that if landed flush can take out almost any1 which is y hes a threat. gatti has an excellent jab, his problem is going to war, which ppl like but he loses that way

If I had to pick a guy who was more overrated it would be Gatti.

Mayo beat a p4pounder in Forrest and although the second fight was very close I thought when he hurt Forrest badly in the 11th he did enough to squeak that second fight out as well-plus Vernon had never before in his career trained for a fight like he did the second fight with Mayorga, that was the best Vernon possible and he still could not get it done.

Mayo in my mind won the Spinks fight and was jobbed of at least one knockdown in that fight so here is another performance against a world class guy that I thought should have gone his way.

Mayo's fight with Tito was just too much...he is not a 160 pounder and he probably should not be fighting at 154 either if he wants to be suprememly effective...147 is where he should be and I would give him a damn good chance against Zab Judah based upon his rough house style.

As for Gatti who the **** has he beaten or fought at 140? Mickey Ward????? Cmon Ward in his day was a decent fighter but nothing to get really excited about and Arturo had to pull out all stops just too get by a guy that many in the division including Zab at the time thouroughly outclassed.

Gatti fought like **** against Branco in my opinion, another fringe contender like Ward...he then fought a lightweight in Leo Dorin and it did not help things out for Leo that he is 4'2". Then he fights a faded shell of himself in Jesse James...Gatti has beaten no one and if Im Pat Lynch I keep selling out in New Jersey against fringe contenders for as long as I can because Gatti can't beat anyone in the top 5 or 6 in the division period!

They are both great warriors but I give the nod to Mayo based upoin his two wins against Vernon (the only guy ever to beat him) and his fight with Corey.

Mayorga is definitely over rated, Gatti is not.

gatti is overrated by hbo.....but hes a fun fighter to watch.....mayorga in no way is overrated.....he beat a then p4p fighter in forrest not once but twice....the 2nd time he squeked by.....if u watch the spinks vs mayo fight again its obvious that mayorga shuld ahve won....he got 2 points deducted frmo him and those 2 points decided the fight..........the 12th round he clearly knocked spinks over yet the knockdown didnt count.........he got beat up by a middleweight in trinidad.....trniidad was far more superior but mayo is not overrated

I agree that Mayorga is extremly overrated but how can Gatti be overratted when most people don't think he's that good. He is extremly popular for how good his is, but thats not being over-rated.

Why do boxers get SO much criticism? They all work so hard for where they get, and people find a reason to give them all ****.

Gatti is a bit overrated. He is never going to get past the Mayweathers, Cottos, and Harrises of the 140lbs division. With that said, he isn't as bad as some people portray him to be. He will give any of them a good fight, he just won't win.

I don't think Mayo is overrated at all. He just had no business fighting at 160lbs. Remember, he was the legit 147lbs undisputed champ.

Neither one of them are overrated imo. Making entertaing fights for the fans doesn't mean they are world beaters. I recognize that there are fights that they should both lose, and they do.
