you know what i think theres alot of sentiment when it comes to bernard and thats fine but when it clouds your judgement then it needs to stop. maybe its because hes from philly, maybe its because he represents the hard working black american male who never had much to begin with or maybe its because we all secretly identify with bernard because hes a fighter with limited physical attirubtes but makes up for it with dedication and knowledge.

bernard is not an ATG, his losses count against him and his best wins are against smaller men and when he did face fighters of equal stature he lost.

a bunch of unimpressive defenses for a long time in a crap division.

only difference is joe has a few wins over very old , great fighters while hopkins has a few wins over great fighters much smaller than him.
Way more? No, you're underrating Hopkins.

De La Hoya was #2 at 154, only getting 'beat' by a roided Mosley and Hopkins dropped 4 pounds to fight De La Hoya. If that fight would have been at 160 it wouldn't have gone 9 rounds.

Saying Trinidad was much smaller is some hater ****, he proved to be #1 at 154 and #2 at 160 before the fight. He beat the **** out of Joppy.

De La Hoya was either in or just outside the top 10 P4P, Trinidad was #2 or 3. Tarver was top 10, Wright was #5, and Pavlik was #4, 5 or 6. Add that to the 20 title defenses (not to mention his opponents barely won any rounds), doing some of this over 40, and being the best fighter over 40 years old. Hopkins 160 defenses>Calzaghe 168 defenses.

B-Hop isn't top 10 ATG in my book, but he's probably in the top 30 or 40.

Not an ATG? You are the one with clouded judgment here man.

His losses: What type of amateur career did Jones have when they fought? Now, do the same with Hopkins. Even still, Hopkins managed to win 4 rounds. How old was he when he lost to Taylor and Calzaghe? Oh, and how close were those fights?

This smaller man bull**** needs to stop, do some research.

how much credit should sturm get then? he beat delahoya.

yes tito beat joppy. joppy was long time champion at 160 but does 1 good win in a division make one very good at that weight?

joppy was champ for 5 years with about a dozen defenses.

holmes couldn't win a belt at 147 and 154 but became a 2-time champ at 160 and also held a belt for better part of 5 years in the division before losing to hopkins.

kinda shows you how weak 160 was during hopkins time doesn't it.

That was at 160 and Oscar didn't even look like he took that fight seriously. Hopkins weighed in at the lowest weight in his career and knocked out someone who'd never been knocked out.

I don't know... can we call Rafael Marquez a legit super bantam? Trinidad didn't just beat Joppy he destroyed him and was clear cut #1 a weight division below.

Hopkins did what he was supposed to do, he smashed all his weak opposition, until he could get in the ring with the stronger opp. and put it on them too.

i think he's a great boxer...but much like all international fighters...he will never be great until he comes over and beats on some people over here...or at least the best over there...calzaghe won some good matches...and he beat bhop...roy jones was a joke...a bad one at that...now i'll say that he beat kessler with a legit win...but it was damn close...but kessler hasn't gone through anyone over here either...i just think that calzaghe got off lucky...if he was fighting in america...his career might have looked completely different...

this might be true generations past but not really anymore.

the world doesn't revolve around america and americans.

america is still important to boxing but it is no longer the only show in town.

                look at heavyweight for example.

what 2 of the top 10 heavyweights are from america?

do they really have to fight in america to prove they are the best?

Maybe his era, but not All time, you have to take into consideration figheters from 1950 till present and even before that.
