Was Ali really the greatest?

Oh, I see: "Kill the messenger not the message". He was broke, so? He drank, so? That broke drunk guy was the trainer of Ali.
Moreover I base my statements on Foreman's words, too:

Ever heard that people who have a tired old story and no money make up new bits to earn sell the same old story?Comment

armstrong i consider top 3 the only thing was he had a very short prime of 2-3 years...partly because he fought so much at so many different weights and partly because of his attacking style.....ali was damn near on top for 12 years....Comment

He isn't the greatest boxer ever. I will agree with the greatest heavyweight but the greatest boxer ever, I will argue against that.

No, Ali isn't "the greatest", he's top-ten though. I've watched almost all of Ali's wins and he isn't nearly as impressive as the writers made/make him sound. I think he tends to get overrated because of his political activism controversies like draft dodging and his "black power" ties to the racist Malcolm X.
He did beat some truly great fighters and so he's has to be one of the greatest, but as you say, the media do enjoy over-rating the man.Comment
