Super Middleweight Bomb: Everyone Loses But the Fans

By Cliff Rold - Everyone is going to lose.

It was the first thought which came to mind when the news broke here at BoxingScene of a Showtime Super Middleweight ‘tournament’ beginning later this year and continuing through 2011. With a round robin format where each man appears slated to fight three times, building through some sort of points system to a final four situation, everyone involved is likely to lose at least once from start to finish. This tourney is a great idea. It would be nice to see Pavlik in there instead of Jermaine Taylor but I'm not gonna get too greedy when the fans are being treated to this much fun.

Agreed with Cliff Rold. High props to Kalle Sauerland who came up with the idea.

In Germany and Denmark this tournament is billed as boxings Ryder Cup pitting the best euros against the best americans. The first pairings is exactly that.

No kidding, Jermaine loses 3 of his last 4 fights, two by KO, the lone win a sparring match over one of his friends, and he gets in. Meanwhile more deserving SMWs like Bute (undefeated SMW title holder) get left out.

Yep, I'd be surprised to see any of these guys still undefeated at the end of it.

So, it's the Europeans that are obsessed with nationality.........

                  I can't .

That's the billing when the tourney is sold to the masses. Hardcore fans just wants to see the best fighters regardless of nationality. Joe Average is looking for his own guy. It's a soccer world cup mentality.
