yes lots of irrationality for sure. But one thing is clear Pac likely wont be pressuring Cotto at least not much and when he does it will not resemble pressure from Margarito. The easiest way to victory for MP is to pot shot, as he did against DLH in the beginning, hope to accumulate damage and gain momentum late winning either a decision or late stoppage. Cotto needs to fiht smart but keep his own workrate up to around 70 punches per round and work the jab and the body. If he sets the pace is able to even have moderate success with body shots and controls distance with the jab Pac is going to take a beating. I will be impressed if either guy can dominate this fight and if either guy is able to get a stoppage.
Cotto will test Pacquiao's "mythical" power

I think it is not only Pac`s hands that are fast when pertaining to speed. He can dish-out and slip punches all at the same time. He can parry, bob and weave, go in-and-out while punching, all at the same time. And unknowingly, I think Roach had converted him to a hybrid counterpuncher.
Pacquiao flows with the punches, and if Cotto gets hit on the onset, we shall see the real beef.Comment

I agree that Cotto will be Pac's toughest test to date but I do think that Pac has tremendous power given his frame. I think it will be close until like rd 8 or 9 and then Pac's energy, speed, aggression will be the difference- Pac UD or late, late tko stoppage.Comment

But I believe this is not the case for the hook. I think Margarito throws the stronger hook because the torque of the punch is dependent on the lever arm and we know Margarito have the longer arm.Comment

Based on your previous posts, you're certainly no ******. Anyways, I'm an engineer by profession so I'll try to do this hypothetically. I think he is referring to the straight punches by pac. Because a punch thrown in a straight line achieves it's max when the arm is fully stretched. Since pac's have a shorter reach, his punch would have reached full power when it hits Rashad. If Margarito throws a straight, it would not have reached its max before it hits Rashad. Plus factor in the speed of pac then this is certainly possible.

As for the post, you are spot on. pac's reach makes his straight left his most valuable & powerful weapons. Miguel cotto's defensive guard is similar to erik morales where he holds both fists to the side of his head. That is a big no no vs pacquiao's straight left & uppercuts.
Ive also read from the valero camp about Pacquiao's punching power as very potent. Whats troubling is the lack of a seasoned trainer/strategist in cotto's corner for a very strategic fight. If i was cotto i would take up on that emmanuel steward offer.Comment

its so nice to read a nice, coherent, clear, & concise post from a professed professional. u know someone who actually has a job, responsibility, doesnt live in their parents basement like e cartel & mafia posters in this site.

maybe he rather eat straights and uppers than hooks.Comment

Cotto has a reputation of being a chinny fighter but that was in the past. @ JWW, he was hurt and wobbled by Demarcus Corley and Ricardo Torres. Since his move up to WW, the man has taken flush shots from Mosley, Margarito, Judah and Clottey and has yet to be knocked down (voluntary knees not included). He also posseses fast recovery when stunned. He has proven his toughness. If Pacquiao can't hurt him, he is fucked. Pac can have some success early on with his speed alone but Cotto's style has historically neutralized speedy boxers(Judah, Quintana...both southpaws).
Thoughts?Comment

I think Cotto definitely need a new trainer now, not that one he had against Clottey
You can't fight Pac havin only single gameplan, they must adjust on what Pac style he's facing
Margo laid out the bluprint on how to beat Cotto, while no one has figured out Pac yet
(except JMM, but Cotto is no JMM in terms of counterpunching)Comment

Thanks for that information, in martial arts and boxing emphazis is placed on stance and strong stance leads to better transfer of power. from the waist through the end of the strike. Can you elaborate on this?
haha I was cracking up even before I finished reading your post. I think the reason why cotto's guard is as you described is because the temple area might be his weakeast spot. I don't recall him being rock by straight or uppers but he did in the past get rocked by hooks to the side of the head..

As for post on cotto, funny I have the same assessment on his defense. He probably has the same weakness as Morales. Morales was knocked down on the 3rd fight with a temple shot by pac going backwards. In the 2nd fight, it's also a shot to the side of the head that KO'd him. As for Cotto,he showed vulnerability for temple shots in both the Corley fight (he was staggered) and in the Judah fight (he was stunned). But those were JWW fights, I have not yet seen this at WW. But his stance, as you noted, is vulnerable to the straights. Which is why I give pac a very good chance in defeating Cotto.
Hope this fight gets made. It will be interesting to see what adjustments both camps make.Comment
