Look just take the damn fight. nobody is forcing Marquez to fight Mayweather. Marquez knows this is his biggest payday and if he wins he could be a top 5 mexican fighter ever!! PPL have done it before so I really dont wanna hear it. and Nacho is crazy to think Mayweather would be up to 160, the most he ever came in the ring was 149 HES WHOLE LIFE!!!

Dan916 your right. Cotto v Mayweather is correct weight wise even though Mayweather won't admit it and Pac v Marquez is a necessity.

I a lot of times criticize Manny Pacquiao for trying to get Mosley and Cotto to drain weight, so I won't use double standards. But the reason why this situation with Marquez and Mayweather is a little bit different is the fact that Marquez has never fought above 135 before, where Pacquiao has fought higher than what he is currently trying to get Cotto to come in at.

And the fact that Nacho Beristain is the one who is bringing this up is the reason it could hold some truth to it.
Good post. You are so right about marquez moving up all the way from 135lbs. I remember Battling Nelson and I talking about the weight and how PBF would force JMM to go all the way to 147lbs before the fight actually happened. And voila! Exhibit A. I beleive PBF is a superior athlete, but if Cotto is willing to go 144-145lbs... why can't PBF??? This is some major bullshi-t as expected.

If Marquez wants to chase the money he has to play by the kingpin's rules.

@whoeever wrote this article, first of all floyd never comes in at 160 he comes in around 150-54, second of all boxingscene and every other boxing website has gotten the weight wrong a million times already, why dont u find out facts before you report false information, third of all if this takes place at 147 it will be ridiculous for marquez and very unfair for da mayweather camp, floyd knows hes not shot and over da hill like oscar wuz when he faught manny, so he needs 2 stop using dat as an excuse

I don't know if I can give fighters credit for dropping unnecessary weight to fight at a weight class that isn't even official. To me, that's being ******. Unless they are so confident they can win. Bernard Hopkins against Kelly Pavlik is an example of that. And Bernard still gets discredited for that victory by a lot of people. Mosley and Cotto are whoring themselves for a shot at Pacquiao and they are falling into his manipulation. Mayweather is a ***** by a lot of people's standards, but he knows what's going on and he knows how to play his cards right.

Guys come on lets not jump to conclusions... it said "rumors", lets just wait and see what happens, I aint saying it is or isn't true... but I think we should wait for some proper confirmation before we start talking.

The weight has been confusing anyway, some said 144, some said 143... I also heard Ellerbe and Floyd say once in one or two of the press conferences "no, this is just a welterweight fight.", so its either one or the other and there is all this **** being said... nobody knows what's really going on, whether its him forcing JMM to go up to 147 (I will lose some respect for him), whether its at 143/144, or even it was at 147 in the first place but confusion messed it all up in the media.

Only thing I am gonna say is this is strange, the weight should have been settled and whatever before the fight was signed... people shouldn't even be confused on whether its meant to be at 144 or 143, this should have been already stated. GBP should fucking pull there finger out and sort this out, they should make an announcement on what is going on properly... instead of confusing all of the fans.

A lot of people hate on Paul Williams for fighting at a weight class that he is supposedly too big for, but at least he is willing to drain the weight to fight guys who are supposed to be smaller. Plus, he is demanding that he wants to fight Shane Mosley for his title at 147 and not some made up weight class. I have to give him more credit for that than I do Cotto draining weight to fight Pacquiao at an unofficial catch weight. It is less of a ***** move than making a Lightweight move all the way up to Welter though. I have to give Cotto that. But if the Mayweather-Marquez fight is at 147, the thing that I like about it is that it's at an official weight like Gruslter mentioned earlier. I'm not a fan of these catch weight fights at all.
