Freddy Roach said Ortiz' offense is his defense, now I didn't understand that at first cause I thought Ortiz had decent head movement. We saw his head movement set up that counter left in the Mike Arnaoutis fight. But once Ortiz got hurt and started to get tagged in this fight, he looked like he couldn't reset himself successfully with out eating more big shots. He couldn't avoid the right hand, he couldn't settle down and find his angles. All he could do is brawl. Even after the 4th in which he looked like he got his legs and paitence back. Come the 5th, he couldn't get away from eatin a big shot. So If he's really interested in fighting again, hopefully they'll turn him into a more looser fighter with better defense.
But yeah, his strength and speed is on point. I think the reason why Maidana was coughin and chokin for air in the interview after the fight was due to Ortiz breakin or fracturing Maidana's ribs in that 4th round. Plus he was pokin at his jaw toward the end of that interview. As morbid as it sounds, lol that's damage done. So yeah, if Ortiz wants to fight again he's got enough physical strength to do so.
Ortiz has the talent to become a world champion, if you can't see this, then you don't know much about boxing.
I have been involved in boxing for a very long time and I can see this kid has talent, the problem is ho whe faces this loss. Many fighters have lost early in their careers to comeback and win titles.
The thing with Ortiz is not the physical it's the mental. Can this kid be tough enough and smart enough to do what is necessary? This is the question and we will see in time. His fist time back in the ring will be a mental test for him that's for sure and couple that with all the pressure and expectations on this kid.

Ortiz has never had the talent to be anything but a pinata.
I love the way those idiots at Goldenboy try to spin the fact that he clearly quit. The doctor stoppage is obviously a bull**** spin on the fact that he quit.
In defense of Ortiz, I do agree with him that he fought a dumb fight
because clearly he was the better boxer but not the more experienced
brawler compared to Maidana. He believed the hype and wanted to
entertain the fans but once he saw Maidana wasn't going nowhere and
began to pressure he lost his heart. Ortiz is still good but he should not
believe the hype and just fight like he is an under dog in every fight.
Oscar and Golden Boy put too much pressure on their guys to be the
next Oscar or superstar. Golden Boy should just let the guys make that
mark for themselves.
