That's exactly what I mean by Floyd positioning his pieces the way he sees fit. JMM isn't a big threat to Floyd, but where he messed up was thinking people were going to flood in for him fighting Marquez or seeing Floyd in general. Call it an injury or not, but it's ironic that the fight didn't meet its expecations up to a month before the fight, but then it's resecheduled to Sept 19th which is only days removed from Mexico's Independence Day? To me, it ain't rocket science. There is more to it though. People have taken notice of the way Manny beat Oscar and Hatton. The casual fan doesn't care that styles makes fights. By fighting JMM Floyd will attempt to return the favor to Manny. Sure people want floyd vs Manny but this also serves as a way for Floyd to shake off any ring rust he may have AND 1 up Manny the same way Manny 1uped him twice. The fight does a couple of things for Floyd. As for JMM he was heading to 140lbs after Manny anyways so fighting at 144lbs against Floyd gives him a chance to 1up Manny as well.
Sugar Ray Leonard...retires for an even longer period of time, and comes out to fight the Middleweight Champ of the World. That's the type of return I was expecting from Floyd (even in the case of fighting Pacquiao). JMM fight is yet another low risk fight with high reward fight(on his part at least). Casual fans aren't THAT naive.Last edited by Ravishing; 06-30-2009, 03:41 PM.Comment

Not everyone is Sugar Ray and to be fair its well documented that SRL saw something in Hagler while he was retired that he felt he could come back and exploit. I want to see Floyd fight PAC/SSM/ and Cotto. I just don't blame him for taking a tune up that also has some value. I'm not sure how well or badly the Mayweather Marquez fight was doing originally but the anti Floyd army will make assumptions and call them truth if it involves negativity about Floyd. At the end of the day its a fight that serves several purposes. Crucify the man if he doesn't do what he is supposed to do after this fight. That's exactly what I mean by Floyd positioning his pieces the way he sees fit.
