Do you really think its that easy? Your questions are equivalent to asking a MLB batter why he cant hit the ball then you tell him how to stand pivot, twist, and swing and tell him its that easy. Why is it that fighters like Ortiz, that are supposed to be superior, drop their hands when they punch??

Why do the lean and reach from far outside???

Why do they back straight up, instead of pivoting out, or going to your left or right???

And why the hell do you back up and create distance, when you are on the inside, and all of your success came on the inside??

I mean 9 out of 10 guys that REALLY know boxing know these things....

It is the basics... The fundamentals.... The adding and subtraction of boxing if you will....

I cant understand how these guys that have fought their entire life, can not do these things.... These simple, basic, fundamentals.....

Its like knowing Trigonometry, and not being able to add or subtract....

Okay, I'm kidding. To the thread questions. The mistakes that you're pointing out ie dropping hands, backing straight up, etc....

All those flaws that you're asking about I think are all natural instinct. For example, a street fight, often guys are going off instincts, when they see a punch coming, the natural tendency is to move their heads out of the way by leaning back.

Dropping the hands- I think alot of fighters feel looser when their arms are dangling to the sides, they feel like their punches come out faster and in the later rounds they're simply fatigued.

Umm, they're also trying to emulate another fighter, for most guys it's Ali, BUT the problem is, most guys don't have the reflexes to fight such a style, but fighters do it anyway. Bad coaching as well.

Backing up when a fighter is already doing good work on the inside - Here's what I think on that, because I use to have the same habit. Fighters usually will suddenly back up after they've finished a combination, I think they try to create this space because they're trying to pace themselves, if they try to stay on the inside they'll have to keep working because their opponent is also within distance to strike.

Another thing is, like Ortiz, he's really a boxer, so even though he was doing good work on the inside, he has been used to shooting from long range, he's not really an inside fighter, so he's always gonna resort back to what he's most comfortable with, or it could also be, that he knew Maidana could punch, and he didn't want to be in that "kitchen" for too long" you know what I'm sayin'.

But at the end of the day, the blame can only be pointed at two people, It's either a terrible coach, or a stubborn student.

Because fighter like Ortiz have the natural talent to get by with these types of mistakes...Once they make it to the A Class of fighters they get exploited....Their natural talent can make up for the mistakes they make and the bad habits they have for only so long....Fightign 4 rounders and 6 rounders and 8 rounders against D and C level fighters then stepping up to journey men and then fighting other top prospects is totally differnt.....The get exposed for what they are...Just look at JT constantly pulls straight back holds his left super low...He gets lazy with his jab abd gets counter with the straight right all the time...Carl Froch props to him but JT skill wise should shut that guy out everytime but because of the reasons you stated above and stamina which is KEY.....Lefty

WRONG! If you put Ortiz in there with a bum, he will do all of the things HTown talked about. The whole point of being an elite fighter is that you are fighting other elite fighters, and other elite fighters have the ability to take tools away from you.
