It's very obvious that he knew he'd not be able to win. When he said "i don't get put on my back for nobody"(sic) then, to me, that signified that he knew full well he just wanted to call it a night. I think to say he's a bum is ******, to say that he's going nowhere is likewise ******. But he's just not got the heart, or the balls, in my opinion. He's a talented guy who's lacking in the areas that you just can't teach. MAB was cut at least as badly vs Amir. He didn't quit. Victor will find that his most recent and only loss cost him quite a bit more than his "O". Silly boy. Let's hope he learns.
I think you might be right playa....I think we forget he is still hella young....he was probably embarrassed and didnt know what else to say....I hope that's true...

No **** that's what im saying....I guess not everyone has the testicular fortitude to be a playa in the game....I just really hope his talent doesn't go to waste...this kid has something and it's very early on to call it a career...he could still come up and make something of him self in the ring...let's hope for the best for him...

Its a mental for vic. what happens when he gets in another war? if his mentality is the same, he will end up quiting again. the kid is young, talented but needs alot of time to develop.

His corner was telling him they were going to stop the fight in between rounds, but he continued. He clearly had nothing left as soon as he was hit in the round he was wobbling and falling, then goes down. He was DONE.

His comments at after the fight is what you don't want to hear from a fighter. But he's 22 years old and had never been in that situation before and probably didn't realize what the "right" things to say were.
Whut up son how are you? Listen while I agree with you in some respect I think he could have continued on. He never said to his corner that he wanted to keep fghting and he never said to his corner don't stop the fight or anything...His body was saying please dont make me quit I dont want ot fight anymore somebody get me out of this....He clearly did not want to continue....Sometimes being a young fighter and going through an experience like this can be a learning curve where you can benefit from getting hrurt and fighting on...He needed to grab a hold of Maidana and make it through the round go to his corner and regroup...Fight be hind his jab and make it a boxing match for a round or two so he could work out the cob webs but instead of that he elected to quit...Yeah he was hit with some good shots and yes he might have gotten hurt but what do you expect you are in a fight not a dance contest right?.....I disagree I rather go out on my back then go out the way he did. Even if he would have fell face first and just didn;t get up....Lefty

it sounded like he wasn't "in the game" for himself.....

it sounded like he was boxing, because "someone else" wanted him to box, and he's had enough.

if he retires, i'll understand, but if he decides to come back, he won't be taken seriously, and there will be questions about him before every fight....and there should be.

I don't understand how some people on here are stating the fact that just because Ortiz is young he lost. Many fighters in the ring have start off young and still were able to pull through with more terrible situations. Tyson won his first Championship fight at the age of 20, so what right does Ortiz get to say that he lost because of his age?

The kid in my opinion, lacks balls and in till he fixes that, then he can start to work towards a championship fight. He has the skills already, but fails to lack some in the heart dept.

I didt see the fight but ive seen clips on his beating and I saw the post fight interview
to me it sounds like he is really thinking about retiring

IF he does good for him
                if not
You need to bring more heart and a pair of Balls Vic or your gonna get schooled again

two things are for sure in boxing... punchers are born and you can't give someone more heart either they have it or they don't.

                    That's for sure.

Although time will tell us in the future by looking at Ortiz.

Wut up dawgy....Im feeling what your saying and all but I don't think anyone is saying his age is why he lost....he lost cuz he got handled but way in which he lost and specially his comments after the fight is what seems to be immature for a fighter to say. That is the part where I do believe his young age becomes a factor....he lacks experience in that area and it showed...
