There is fine line between having heart and being ******...but a fighter needs to be trained so that they know that their corner people have their back. They need to know that if he gets in trouble the corner will take care of it...In this game there is no room for fighters who quit...but the corners need to know when to say when...the DLH Pac fight is the perfect example...DLH went out like a punk....now that's all everyone talks about...What should have happened is DLH should of came out for the round...and the second he got in trouble the corner should have thrown in the towel...Same thing here...Ortiz should of continued and allowed the corner to call the shots....but I guess if you don't trust your corner then that's kinda hard to do....
Did he or didn't he???

People are zeroing in on different things that Vic said in the interview with Max. Some of the other stuff he said was he let the crowd get to him and that during training he kept thinking that he could overpower Maidana.
This leads me to believe that Ortiz got caught up in the hype. I'm not saying he's not as good as the publicity machine is stating... Ortiz is a very good fighter with skills. But I think he got caught up trying to deliver on everything people were saying about him before the fight. He wanted a highlight worthy KO to please the fans. He wanted to live up to the hype.
So what did he do? He admitted that he didn't fight the way he trained for the fight. He basically went in there and let himself get into a slugfest. When he got rocked, his limited experience didn't allow him to adjust. The hardest point of the toughest pro fight in your career is not the easiest moment to recollect your thoughts and go back to your gameplan, especially when you're stunned by crushing shots.Comment

Wut up dawgy....Im feeling what your saying and all but I don't think anyone is saying his age is why he lost....he lost cuz he got handled but way in which he lost and specially his comments after the fight is what seems to be immature for a fighter to say. That is the part where I do believe his young age becomes a factor....he lacks experience in that area and it showed...
as for the topic I mean it to some ho's in here not you, but I do hope he gains some courage after this Saturday.Comment

Whut up son how are you? Listen while I agree with you in some respect I think he could have continued on. He never said to his corner that he wanted to keep fghting and he never said to his corner don't stop the fight or anything...His body was saying please dont make me quit I dont want ot fight anymore somebody get me out of this....He clearly did not want to continue....Sometimes being a young fighter and going through an experience like this can be a learning curve where you can benefit from getting hrurt and fighting on...He needed to grab a hold of Maidana and make it through the round go to his corner and regroup...Fight be hind his jab and make it a boxing match for a round or two so he could work out the cob webs but instead of that he elected to quit...Yeah he was hit with some good shots and yes he might have gotten hurt but what do you expect you are in a fight not a dance contest right?.....I disagree I rather go out on my back then go out the way he did. Even if he would have fell face first and just didn;t get up....Lefty
You're right he could have continued but for how long? Another punch or two? He had the wet noodle legs going, nothing really to support him and Maidana has good power, one half way powerful shot would send him back to the canvas
It's tough to say what was going on through his head, I think he knew he couldn't last. And maybe thats the wrong mentality and he should have that never quit attitude, but again he's only 22. Hopefully he learns from this. And you mention a number of things he could have should have done, like grap him, try to box it out for a couple more rounds. Those things he needs to learn, hopefully he uses this fight to correct those mistakes.
I was never a fan of Ortiz, I mean I liked what I saw but wasn't sold yet. But at the same, I think people are being a bit too harsh on the guy. Who knows what he was feeling physically, maybe he was feeling blinding sharp pain in his head and it freaked him out, maybe he was dizzy, etc. Some people were making it out like he did the legendary Duran "No Mas." I'll cut the kid some slack.
Again though, what I didn't like were his comments after the fight, I think that's what made this a lot worse then it actually wasComment

Is Maidana really a prospect though??? he didn't look all that great in winning...got dropped 3 times....dunno if I'd call him a prospect as much as I would say he was at the right place for the right fight at the right time...but I guess we'll see...Comment

Victor Ortiz has no heart.......heres why.
First off boxing is a brutal sport. I mean, those of us who have actually boxed and still spar and stay in the gym understand that you can seriously get hurt in this game. Some people like Ortiz are born with natural ability to the point where you can just beat most people you meet in the ring.
then all of a sudden, you run into someone who isn't going to stay down after you hit them or isn't going to be intimidated just because fo who you are.
At the first sign of Ortiz getting hit, he didn't like it. He has been the bully but has never been bullied and it was apart that night. It's sad because I think the kid has all the talent in the world but YOU HAVE TO BE WILLING TO DIE IN THAT RING. If you are to be great.
Some people don't like to hear that and think it's too old fashion of a way of thinking but you have to think this way. It's the corners job to protect you, it's your job to fight until you are unconscious.
Some fighters are born with natural ability and no heart. Some fighters are born with ability and all heart. Once in a while you get a rare one that has both. In Ortiz' case you have a young prodigy that doens't have the heart of a warrior and thought he was just going to rise to the top by breeezing past everyone......sorry kid think again.Comment
