Na men. I get what your saying, but he wasnt badly hurt, he was just in a "testing your will" position. Dude

He was winning the fight, he got in some trouble and he said ****k this. I mean Maidana himslef went down 3 times in the first 2 rounds. Did he quit???

Ortiz quitting last night was straight up bull****!!!

Even the great ones have quit. There's no point in continuing when there's no way to win.

I admit I've never seen anyone call the fight off after having scored three knockdowns though. Anything could have happened in that type of fight, the only difference being that Maidana never got discouraged when the pressure was on him.

Still, I can understand Ortiz's decision but based on his post-fight comments, I'm not sure if boxing is the sport for him. You don't have to be a warrior to become "punch-drunk", it can happen to anyone with just a single punch.

If I was Maidana, I would go up to Ortiz and offer him a rematch. If what I am seeing on this thread is true, the Ortiz - Maidana conversation (through an interpreter) might go on like this...

Maidana: Vic, I guess that was an off night. You up for a rematch?

Ortiz: Sorry dude, you are just too tough for me. I can't fatom the idea that you are going to punish and hurt me enough that I might end up in a coma. Gosh, I am too young and I have a long future ahead of me and I don't really buy into that "warrior" mentality crap anyway. I am all about safety first. Who gives a damn about what boxing fans think anyway.

Maidana: If people hear you talk this way, they are not going to consider you to be a great boxer let alone a great fighter. You don't care about that?

Ortiz: Greatness is a by-product of ******ity. Look at Ali, Duk Koo Kim and Michael J. Fox.

Maidana: Ummm... Vic, Michael was not a fighter.

Ortiz: He wasn't? Whatever dude! All I know is I don't want to end up like anyone of those crazies. So, going back to your first question...
No. I don't want to ever fight you again. I wouldn't mind fighting Mike Arnaoutis again though. He is your countryman, so would you put in a good word for me?

Maidana: Ummm... He is from Athens. I am from Argentina.

          Ortiz: Same difference.

Maidana: K... So I guess your nickname "Vicious" does not really relate to you after all.

Ortiz: Actually my chosen nickname was "Issues". These people at the Olympic Trials saw my sweet smile and thought it was "Vicious". Hell no, I don't want any part of that.

Maidana: K... I'll try and get Mikey for you. Peace.

I would rather come back and fight properly and healthily another day and win."

I think he gave us a good fight and will surely be back, hopefully better than ever and with the mind set to now make sure he doesn't do what wankers like the majority of this board want him to do.

Get over yourselves you bunch of hypocritical ******. Every single one of you would ****e your pants in a second if faced with the prospect of some guy across the ring who has knocked out every single one of his opponents, and he wants to literally pulverize your face into moosh.

Oh, wait, that's right, you all just sit on your arses and play on your computer typing about a fighter who gives you entertainment as being a ***** for providing you with one of the best fights of the year so far! You ****ing bunch of wanking **** ******s. Damn, I'm sick of hearing pathetic little kids whine about a fighter quitting. How many of you have been smashed in the face over and over by a guy with serious power? None of you! Christ, Id like to take a bat to some of you losers calling him a quitter or a *****. Not a single one of you who call him that would even know what it's like to step into that ring and fight someone desperate to kick your head in. You all disgust me.

Shut the f**k up, So you're saying it's okay for Vicky to quit every time he starts feeling the heat, lol Because, for Vicky to belong in the higher echelon of prize fighting, the competition will have to get more difficult, alot more difficult than what he faced last night, Maidana, with all credit and respect to him, is really nothing but a f**kin' good contender at best!

What you're suggesting is all wrong for a prize fighter! So quit comparing us "internet tough guys" to these world-class athletes, they're the ones considered high-performance athletes and I expect nothing less but high-performance, not quitting!

Hmm, What if Juanita Marquez would've quit after those three kd's he suffered against PAC? I guess that would've been okay with you too?

What if Juanita quit after getting decked again in his rematch with my boy, I guess that would've been better than risking it like Vicky put it. And again, just **** the f**k up!

You, calling people on here "internet tough guys", well, you sure have an attitude of one, lol

this is dumb, ali became a Vegatable cuz he tried to fight in the 80's. Real dumb of ali, getting hit.. is part of boxing, if you don't want to get hit, then quit the sport cuz you don't have what it takes.

Dude did you even watch the fight? I don't see how Ali fit into all of this? also the ideal in boxing is to Hit and then evade getting it, not stand in front of each other like rockem sockem robots.

All great fighters have losses on thier record all some great fighters have quit... he made a mistake just like everyone on the planet and you cna eaither learn from it or not!
