    He quit! Enough said.

You can attempt to paint it in a positive light all you want but at the end of the day the Sky is Blue, Grass is Green and Victor Ortiz quit. It is that black and white.

He did not sign a contract to be a baseball player, football player, etc.... He signed a contract to be a professional boxer! It is the equal to Albert Pujols going 0-3 with the 3 K's in his first 3 AB's and just deciding not to take his 4th AB because he feels like he can't hit that particular pitcher.

Ortiz was in a winnable fight that tested his mettle. With a little hear and gumption he beats Maidana.

I seriously would be surprised if Ortiz ever fought again.

Both fighters fought a tough war, it's a shame it ended like it did, but at least both men fight another day.

Well done to Maidana for a great fight, and showing us exactly what he's made of.
Too true. Instead of talking about the winner,a guy who gets no attention, money, props etc. we end up talking about what a loser the loser is! Its hard to believe that this is a forum for fans of the sport at times.

So far, your post has been the only post that shed light in a logical manner. You are right in everything you stated. It amazes me how these posters can praise this and at the same time knock other fighters for quitting. This sport is what it was from the onset a brutal full contact entertainment with each athlete knowing the consequences before stepping through the ropes. With that said, if Maidana through his hands up in frustration and said "no mas" he'd be the worse thing since herpes.

          Peace

I would rather come back and fight properly and healthily another day and win."

I think he gave us a good fight and will surely be back, hopefully better than ever and with the mind set to now make sure he doesn't do what wankers like the majority of this board want him to do.

Get over yourselves you bunch of hypocritical ******. Every single one of you would ****e your pants in a second if faced with the prospect of some guy across the ring who has knocked out every single one of his opponents, and he wants to literally pulverize your face into moosh.

Oh, wait, that's right, you all just sit on your arses and play on your computer typing about a fighter who gives you entertainment as being a ***** for providing you with one of the best fights of the year so far! You ****ing bunch of wanking **** ******s. Damn, I'm sick of hearing pathetic little kids whine about a fighter quitting. How many of you have been smashed in the face over and over by a guy with serious power? None of you! Christ, Id like to take a bat to some of you losers calling him a quitter or a *****. Not a single one of you who call him that would even know what it's like to step into that ring and fight someone desperate to kick your head in. You all disgust me.

How about his opponents then? Don't they have the right to quit too? Or is that reserved for a select few, while others have to fight on? Ortiz quit when he clearly could have continued, he was not hurt bad, he had a MINOR cut and was hit in the face. Can you imagine what his opponents are thinking right now? It's prizefighting and a bloodsport and while i agree safety comes first then make it equal for EVERYONE and lets have fights anticipated for 6 months going down in 3 rounds everytime, not because of any real stoppages, but because fighters would quit as soon as they first get hurt (or feel they are in for a long night). I'm sure you wouldn't be happy with that. The real hypocrite is you sir.

Most of us here are "boxer" fans instead of boxing fans really. That said all i have to add is Ortiz really pulled a number yesterday. He quit for safety. I'm ok with that if everyone gets to do it, but then who would watch boxing anyway? Can you imagine in the future fighters feeling the opponent they are with in the ring is stronger and immediately quitting anticipating a long night?

By realizing like ortiz that you did not lose your eye and you are healthy enough to get back in the gym and making sure that never happens again. If he had not quit he would've probably got knocked out or lost his eye or be in a coma right now. Sometimes the least macho thing you do is the smartest thing you do.I remember when i was 17 in NYC i had 2 friends(brothers) and 1 got into an argument with this kid and the older brother(manny) decided to walk away and the other kid is calling him a coward, *****, etc. So manny's brother(hector) tells manny "you're taking that ****? So manny tells him to let it go. Well hector walks out to fight the guy and this year will be 27th anniversary of hector being shot and killed by that kid. Like i said, sometimes the least macho thing you do is the smartest.

It looks like ODLH has a stable of them with Guerrero and Ortiz. The Golden Boy's future is taking a hit.

First Guerrero quits, then Kirkland gets busted and now Ortiz quits. Oh yeah, and Escobedo and Jacobs are over rated.
