You really cant count those silly WBO title defences. We all know that when he held that belt before losing it to Sanders that Lewis was THE champion and Wlad wasnt rated by any orginisation to challenge Lewis because of holding the silly WBO belt which has always been pointless. Lets not forget that Damiani was the world champion when Tyson was at his peak!
Its as worhtless as the WBU, heck Toney is probably telling people still that he is heavyweight champion due to holding something called the IBA.

Louis was defending against the "bum of the month club".
At one point Louis made back to back defenses against guys with 23 and 40 losses. Those kinda fights would never get sanctioned these days. Considering also that back in the day he could fight 6-7 times per year without worrying about HBO and sanctioning bodies I think 20 defenses by a modern heavyweight is actually more impressive than 25 by a guy fighting 50 years ago.
Some very good points there.
I still don't think that Wlad will make it to 20 world title defences though.

no that is highly doubtful...your talking about 18 more straight defenses..considering he only fights twice a year..your talking about around 9 years til he gets that far..he would be 42..and personally once his speed starts to go..wladimir is in very big trouble because he wont be as quick with that jab and his reflexes and he will expose that weak chin of his once again..so no the chances of that happenening are very slim

The man doesn't stand a chance of breaking Louis' record, although Louis' record was built partly because he rarely fought good fighters.
Some of the guys he defended his title against had 25 losses or more.
