If a cut is open accidentally by a Headbut and is the cause of the stoppage!
And if the stoppage occured before the end of round 4, the fight will be called No Contest! While if the fight is stop after round 4, the fight will go to the scorecards of the judges!!!
Nevertheless, I think Mayol won clear enough!
Calderon actually surrendered, he showed sign of unwillingness to continue the to the referee...
He has the option to continue just like Miguel Cotto did...
Comparing the cuts, Cotto has worst cut than Calderon...
Calderon ain't game! He was hesitant to continue fighting! The cut was way up the forehead unlike Cotto's cut which was more critically located but still he finished the fight.
Calderon could have told the doctor he could still continue fighting despite the cut, but you could see him bow his head as if to allow the blood to flow and ask mercy from the doctor to stop the fight.
just thinking about avoiding a knockout loss........making the cut as an excuse......What a shame!!!Comment

Not sure about all that. We got to agree on something, Calderon didnt run on this one, stood right in front of Mayol and landed some hard shots and was able to take Mayol's no problem. Fight was dead even at that point. Calderon looked a bit out of distance due to inactivity, he should just go for Viloria.Comment

You may be watching a different fight......it was Mayol pushing the fight.....with some instances of Calderon throwing one-two combination and Mayol retaliating with 1-2 harder punches... then Calderun backing away.
After the cut....he was told by the doctor he may stop the fight and his answer was "it's up to you".....damn!!! He could have acted like a true Champ and responded that he could still damn fight!!!!

just like what i had said before the fight, people would just look on calderon taking this one easily as tune-up for him not knowing rodel mayol is a 5-time amateur champion.. calderon only landed 3 clear shots while mayol on the other hand pulverized ivan with jabs and power punches and the more busier fighter from rnd1 to 6th, pretty clear that ivan couldnt handle mayol so he intentionally did his trademark move to avoid being ko'ed, headbutting his opponent and make the referee believe he's having hard time dealing with his cut.Comment
