True, Oscar didn't think in a million years that would have been the outcome, and neither did anyone else except for those with absolute faith in Pacquiao. This fight was derided by nearly everyone saying it was a colossal mismatch, a joke of a fight, etc etc, and it was! It was a classic Irony demonstration. Nothing is worse than re-achieving greatness by trying to fold the odds in your favor then having it blow up in your face. I laughed when he lost just for this reason. Otherwise Oscar was a great fighter, but his ego caught up to him and he couldn't accept someone much smaller was usurping his limelight. That's called ego.

I'm not crazy about the weight demand that Floyd made in this fight either, but I view JMM as a tougher challenge than a lot of other fighters for Floyd. In fact, the only other fighters that I view as challenges for Mayweather at 140-147 is Paul Williams, Shane Mosley, and Manny Pacquiao. I think Cotto is overrated and even JMM and Pac would beat him.Comment

Mosley at 142 is not a fair condition. It's BS. Hank Armstrong used to fight real welters giving up 10-15 lbs. and kicked their ass.
Man up or stay out of welter. So what if a bunch of people went 'he ducked Mosley.' 20 years from now it will mean ****.
Mayweather got accused of some ducks in divisions where he was firmly established...one that never gained traction was Winky Wright because at the end of the day it was TOO big. There is no shame in the former Feather and Fly champ to say, "Too Big" in the era of day before weigh ins.Comment

If he thinks his highest effective weight is Jnr Welterweight then he can only be accused of ducking if he refuses to fight any top Jnr Welterweights. If he thinks he can make Welterweight, he should fight at 147. There are too many weight classes as it is. Some people have been comparing Pac to Henry Armstrong, but there were only 8 divisions in Armstrong's day, and he won the Welterweight title and cleaned out the division while still weighing in at only 135.Last edited by Dave Rado; 06-07-2009, 10:05 PM.Comment

Excellent point with the Armstrong reference. Unless you are taking all conceivable odds AGAINST YOU and stepping up to a weight you are too small for and assured to lose, then it isn't greatness. Period. That's what FMJ fans fail to grasp, and Pacman lunatics as well. Weightdraining a bigger guy and forcing him to be weak from the outset is called HANDICAPPING. Why not just tie one hand behind his back too? Ridiculous.Comment

Hell, if you ever go to Texas, it doesn't matter how your last name is spelled, it's still pronounced OSBURN!Comment

It's absolutely ridiculous to claim that asking a fighter to come in weight drained is "fair conditions". doing that is nothing short of disgusting and makes a complete farce of a great sport.
