The rules are f**** pathetic. According to IBF rules, a newly crowned champion must fight a mandatory within 90 days but the IBF allowed Tarver-Dawson II to happen, that's hypocritical of them. Dawson should of fought Cloud after he beat Tarver the first time. IMO the rules are too strict and too pathetic, they should only enforce the rules on what they think is morally right. And since Cloud hasn't fought in 10 months, they should of allowed Dawson another voluntary defense.
Cloud was offered spot on Dawson-Johnson II undercard

Cloud makes me sick, he's worst than Soupy
Cloud is a ****** motherphucker. No one knows who he is, why not take this deal. Dawson is at the point in his career where he's beyond a belt, he's more of a named fighter that Cloud will ever be.
He will fight Woods in England and get robbed and thus loss all viability....Comment

In order to help build to a potential fight with Dawson, Shaw said he offered Cloud's team a deal under which Cloud would fight on HBO's Dawson-Johnson II televised undercard with the guarantee that if Cloud and Dawson, 26, both won, Dawson's next defense would come against Cloud on HBO, which had approved the plan.
Shaw said Cloud's team turned it down, even though Cloud would have made "way more money" under that plan that he will now by fighting for a vacant belt without HBO's backing.
"The networks aren't interested in Cloud and he would be a step down for Chad at this point in his career," Shaw said. "But we were willing to fight him under that deal. Cloud's people turned it down. To me, Cloud's people are mismanaging his career and not doing what is best for him. He may get a title shot, but so what if he's not making any real money? The exposure and money on HBO two times in a row would be way better for him, so in my mind it wasn't a good business decision for Cloud. Chad will go on with his career."Comment

this is the type of thought process that holds the sport back. Paper titles are useless. Cloud could be fighting for more notoriety and in the end more money (which is why they fight). A true champion (which Dawson is not yet) doesn't lose their title unless it's in the ring or by retirement from the weightclass. Cloud's fight with Woods will most likely not be televised at all. And HBO gave the go ahead for Tavoris, and he has a fan friendly style. It would've prudent for him to take the deal. Bad decision for Cloud and co. Toiling in obscurity is no way to leverage Dawson at the negoiating table.Comment

It does seem pretty simple-minded to me to turn down an opportunity to fight on an undercard of a televised HBO fight. I suggested he take this action yesterday. But I am a little bit confused about the context of this story. Is HBO forcing Cloud to fight a non-title fight on their network? Are they saying that he can't fight for the IBF title? If that's the case, then maybe he does have a legit reason for turning down this exposure by HBO. Like someone mentioned earlier in the thread, he will have more leverage to negotiate with big-named opponents like Chad and Glen with that belt. Plus, Woods is a decent name in the UK even though he is a slug. He shouldn't be ranked over guys like Shaun George and Yusaf Mack.Comment
