Why was Berto's opponent Urango chosen from a smaller weight division?

after the tuffer than they should of been fights he had with collazo and forbes i can see him wanting an easier one to hone and sharpen. but how did they arrive on urango!
i tell you if i seen urango at +600 or +500 i'd think about picking him.
i can see berto looking past urango being a smart alec right off the bat
and walking into one of those wide rounhouse power punches urango throws.
then berto being macho and getting right up and not taking the count. then urango doing what he did against Ngoudjo breaking his jaw.

I'm not sure where I stand on Andre Berto anymore. At first, when I saw the kid on ESPN 2, his reflexes and pop made me very excited. I thought- well look here, a green fighter with some definite potential.

What seperates a great fighter from a good fighter to me, though, is how high the ceiling is in terms of his ability. Do we notice some little tool that develops in each fight that wasn't present the fight before? Pacquiao, for instance, showed me some crazy growth over the years that is undeniable; though that growth came much later than typical.

Berto, though, burst onto my radar with his speed and punch, making fools out of lower level journeymen; but sometimes I feel as if his showcase fights have done him no favors and he's stagnant.

Throw Berto in with a guy like Bravo, to awe the HBO crowd, and we barely get to blink before its over. While that's nice, it's also not doing much for Andre's experience and growth.

I think I first began to worry when he went down against Rivera. Sure, he handled it well and maybe I should've taken away something positive from that- but instead I began to worry. If I'm not mistaken Berto was already almost 20 fights into his professional career and got dropped plainly out of disrespect and carelessness. That's something that can happen to a good fighter; but rarely to division elites.

Yes, he's young, but he's also now a belt holder and fighting someone unheralded like Juan Urango. What has he done other than lose to Hatton? Well, he also lost to Rabah; that was a robbery.

I'd at least like to see Andre put in against a consistent welterweight. I've already heard that he'll never face Paul Williams because his handlers consider him too small. I don't want him to be a waste of a belt, though. There are already too many of those out there. If he wants to have the green strap but won't ever face a Cotto, Mosley or Williams; what's the point?

I can't believe you're not aware of the different circumstances with Urango fighting Berto and Haye fighting Klitschko!

Again:

1. Haye could not, by his own statement, make cruiserweight any more.
2. Haye had already moved up to heavyweight long before the fight with Wlad was signed.
3. Haye sought the fight with Wlad, Wlad did not seek the fight with Haye.

Now if Wlad decided he wasn't sure he could defeat other heavyweights and went after a current cruiserweight like Fragomeni, so as to hand-pick him as an opponent, it would be a similar situation as Berto and Urango. But Wlad would obviously never do that.

Juan Urango is a warrior, an exciting fighter and a strong puncher. For some reason Andre Berto's management and HBO, pulled a "Floyd Mayweather" and chose him as an opponent, despite his being in a smaller weight division.

Why was he picked as Berto's opponent? There are plenty of good fighters at 147 to choose from. Does having an opponent from a smaller weight division give Berto an unfair advantage?

Was Urango hand-picked to make Berto look good on TV? If so, I really hope their plan backfires, and Urango knocks him out!

Will Urango need to give up his IBF belt at 140 for this fight? I've read rumors about that. Seems kind of unfair to me...

I'm not a Berto fan but I don't think he deserves that much negative criticism for fighting Urango. Clottey and Cotto are tied up fighting each other and Mosley has went on record saying he didn't want to fight Berto, which is ****** because that would be a winnable fight for Shane and it would be a unification fight. I also think Berto beat Collazo fair and square regardless of what other people say. Urango is big for a juniorwelterweight and he's got a puncher's chance but Berto's superior skill set should carry the day.
