Except that he never actually put Holmes to sleep. Even after the third knockdown Holmes was trying to get up and his corner people where actually holding him down and not letting him rise.

Larry may have had some 20+ fights after the Tyson fight but any objective observer knew he didn't even come close to resembling the fighter he had been in his prime. Even in his win over Mercer.

He had seen better days of course, but his age is getting exaggerated greatly.

If he was knocked out by Spinks prior, and suffered another KO right after losing to Tyson, then he would have been shot.

so disappointing that I have to look like a huge Tyson nuthugger just because everyone is discrediting all of Tysons wins. Most of you are just "assuming". Lewis has a joke of a Career himself if we go into detail.

Holmes and Spinks were both perfect opponent's for mike to look good beating up IMO. Holmes had Ali's syndrome and never kept his hands up his entire career. This is why Shavers caught him, and why Mike knocked him out.
Saying a fighter is past it isn't the same as saying he's "shot". A fighter can be past-prime without being completely shot and still clearly not be the fighter he once was. If you're going to use that kind of standard when describing Tyson's post-Rooney career you need to give other fighters the same consideration. You can't have one rule for Tyson and another for everyone else.

Yes, and taken a worse beating for doing so. Pride can make a fighter a champion but in some cases it isn't the healthiest option.

And he was hurt pretty bad by Earnie Shavers and still got up when practically any other fighter would have been KOed.

He wasn't getting up. Look at how long he was down for and look at the way he was just laying there with his eyes shut.

Holmes wasn't the same youthful fighter anymore. He was down and out.

                  Shavers knock down:

                  Time.... Start at 4:50

Many factors that could have been the reason for Tyson knocking Holmes out the way he did and why Holmes got up for Shavers:

                  (1) Youth
                  (2) Being well trained both Mentally and Physically
                  (3) Activity level
                  (4) not as badly hurt prior to the big right when taking Shaver's punch
                  (5) Not seeing Tyson's punch coming

That's why he was saying to Giachetti "Richie get me off the God damn floor" because people where holding him down?

Disagree: Holmes wasn't getting up because he was in dream-land. Tyson wasn't getting up either but he could have gotten up.
