There is a slight possibility that he could've beaten all three of these guys in a prime-for-prime mathcup, but even if that's true all three of these guys need to rank over him in greatness. Is Vernon Forrest a greater fighter than Shane Mosley? Is Junior Jones a greater fighter than Barrera? Calzaghe has just got too many tomato cans on his record to be taken seriously.
Joe Calzaghe was on of the true greats

the probblem with calzaghe is that he dosnt have that many big wins.
and his two biggest come from 40 year olds.
maybe if he had fought them earlyer and some other top guys, then he'd be in, but he hasnt done enough. he's a HOFer tho.
and mayweather has enough wins for him top MAYBE be an ATG.
he beat a prime undefeated corrales at lightwieght. beat prime undefeated hatton. beat oscar at oscar's own wieght. beat zab, and castillo.
and he's gonna have more wins coming.
plus floyd's skills are genius.
and BTW i dont like floyd, and i even know this.Comment

as opposed to what? Calzaghe isn't a good traveller, he is scared of flying.
and fact is the Hopkins fight would have went on years ago if Hopkins hadn't priced himself out of the fight. The only reason they did fight is because Hopkins had no one else to fight that would make him money.
Jones was offered $5m (£3.5m) to fight Calzaghe by Showtime, but renewed his contract with Showtime's rivals HBO, which left Calzaghe only to unify the super middleweight division. Only when he did that did Hopkins and Jones come calling.
That is a fact and some Calzaghe haters need to live up to that.
I didn't know he was scared to fly thats a strange twist. I'm not hating on Calzaghe it just seems like he is abit scared to fight if he is good enough to compete/beat/maul some of the other champions yet doesn't and instead takes fights with guys that couldn't beat him even if Joe gave em' 4 free rounds.Comment

Ottke was a true greatJoe Calzaghe was one of the true greats.
Joe would of beaten James Toney, he was a level below Calzaghe.
Hopkin is a more difficult prospect but he would have troube with a prime Joe's hand speed.
Jones would of been a pick em fight.
I wish people would celebrate a great and underrated fighter like Joe more, he was an exceptional talent.
won 46 (KO 32) + lost 0 (KO 0) + drawn 0 = 46
Ottke would have beaten holyfield. he was a level below Ottke.
Lennox Lewis is a more difficult fight to pick but he would have trouble with a prime Ottke hand speed.
Tyson would of been a pick em fight
I beat up 100 girls and now my record is 100-0. I am better than Calzaghe because I have more wins in my unbeaten record regardless of who I fought. I am unbeaten, that makes me great.Last edited by -Swizzy-; 05-23-2009, 04:38 PM.Comment

I get what you are saying but then again Hatton is not a natural Welterweight, he even admitted he struggled in that division before the Mayweather fight.Comment

Calzaghe flew out for the Mayweather/Hatton fight but wouldn't get on a private jet, Frank Warren had to arrange a jumbo flight for Calazghe, if he didn't then the Hopkins fight would never have happened - it was at the Mayweather/Hatton weigh in that Calzaghe and Hopkins got into each others faces.I didn't know he was scared to fly thats a strange twist. May I suggest fights against domestic rival Robin Reid (where Calzaghe broke his hand in the 4th round) and his good mate Richie Woodhall (both ex-WBC champions) as proof of other fighter ducking Calzaghe. Calzaghe chased them for unification fights in the early 90's but they weren't interested, only when they lost their belts did they turn there attention to Joe.
the fight against Charles Brewer (yeah I know Brewer's chin was suspect, but Calzaghe had brittle hands as early as 91) was a war, that wasn't the real Joe Calzaghe, but that fight re-established himself, then again if he was involved in more wars he wouldn't have been around as long.Comment
