for a while he did fight nobodies, but now that i think about it, every fighter has at one point fought nobodies, the man in my avatar, JCC, has loads of nobodies on his record, along with some greats.
joe had some great wins, like Eubank, Lacy, Hopkins, his best IMO being kessler.
but your right, there is an awful lot of hate on him, personally im not a huge fan of his, but now that i think about it, he's alright, and hasent really done anything to deserive all this hate.
add Reid, Woodhall, Mitchell and Brewer to that list as well.
Chad Dawson certainly rates him and to quote Mayweather Jnr word for word "Calzaghe can box and I like watching him, the guy truly is a real champion"
Joe deserves massive respect, he use to favour the "over the top" left hand, but had to stop that punch because that punch was what caused his hand injuries because they would connect on top of the head. The Kessler fight was another fight where he changed his tactics, Kessler had the better of him early on, two massive uppercuts and Calzaghe, although rocked, took them both and got stronger as the fight went on.
12,15 or 20 round fight, Calzaghe would outbox anyone at his weight.
Joe would of beaten James Toney, he was a level below Calzaghe.
Hopkin is a more difficult prospect but he would have troube with a prime Joe's hand speed.
Jones would of been a pick em fight.
I wish people would celebrate a great and underrated fighter like Joe more, he was an exceptional talent.
won 46 (KO 32) + lost 0 (KO 0) + drawn 0 = 46
Would have , could have ,,,, didnt !!
Good fighter tough awkward and great endurance , poor resume .
Protected career in a weak division and he never threw his hat into the pot untill it was too late and insignificant , will not be remembered as a ATG by history will be like a UK version of Ottke .
as opposed to what? Calzaghe isn't a good traveller, he is scared of flying. You really want to go with that one?
and fact is the Hopkins fight would have went on years ago if Hopkins hadn't priced himself out of the fight. The only reason they did fight is because Hopkins had no one else to fight that would make him money. You actually believe that propaganda? And even if it were true the guy gets a pass because he tried once in a 20 year career to get a good fight and it didn't work so he quit and never tried again. Nice role model.
Jones was offered $5m (£3.5m) to fight Calzaghe by Showtime, but renewed his contract with Showtime's rivals HBO, which left Calzaghe only to unify the super middleweight division. Only when he did that did Hopkins and Jones come calling. Here is a thought, Maybe he should have done that 8 years earlier? What do you think. I mean what kool aid excuses do you want to use
Those are facts and some Calzaghe lovers need to live up to.
Your whole post was just shot down in a matter of seconds.
