Why can't Tomasz Adamek get on television in the US anymore?

The fight between Tomasz Adamek and Matt Godfrey for July 10 has now been cancelled, because the ShoBox decision makers though it wouldn't be a good enough fight.

Recently, a proposed fight between Adamek and Glen Johnson was turned down, first by HBO, and then by Showtime.

Now, HBO is saying they are interested in Hopkins-Adamek, but not until 2010.

I thought everybody considered the fight between Adamek and Cunningham to be a good one. And Adamek's other performances, against O'Neil Bell and Jonathan Banks were very impressive as well...

But for some reason the executives at Showtime don't want to have him on any more.

They failed. Adamek's style and grit makes for good fights.

The IBF have a rule since 2008 that a fighter must be coming off a win to fight for an IBF world title.

They sanctioned Cunningham vs. Braithwaite as an IBF eliminator back in February. Since Maccarinelli defeated Braithwaite I'm sure Cunningham would have no problem, but for some reason it hasn't been scheduled yet

Cunningham isn't available, he's already scheduled to fight Wayne Brathwaite.

Adamek will whoop his ass again in a rematch

Unfortunately, when you have any fighter from overseas, even if they have been fighting here a little while and build a local fanbase(as Adamek has in NJ), it is harder to market them to a wider U.S. audience. I like Adamek and his style alot, and personally I would love to see him fight alot more on TV here. But if you ask anyone besides die-hard boxing fans, they have no clue who Adamek is. That is a problem. I think ESPN and Versus need to seriously think about putting that July 10 fight on, as they did for him vs. O'Neil Bell and vs. Cunningham. If they miss this one, they better get his rematch with Cunningham, if that gets made before the end of the year. It would be criminal if two consecutive title fights featuring this guy aren't even available to American boxing fans.

                  From Dan Rafael's Notebook:

"Adamek is scheduled to fight July 10 in Newark, N.J., but without a commitment from an American broadcaster.

Showtime and Main Events talked about Adamek-Matt Godfrey, but the network elected to pass on the "ShoBox" fight on Thursday.

According to Main Events, Adamek will still fight July 10 but without U.S. television. But because there is now less money in the pot, it means a further downgrade in opponent, possibly to club fighter Bobby Gunn."

                    Exactly.

Someone in another forum says he heard from a Polish source that Adamek is now seeking a unification fight with Fragomeni. That's another good one if it can be made, but it would likely be in Europe not the US.
