  • What I will say is, Hopkin's has still had many advantages over many of his opponents. Be it size, speed, or experience.
The one's he lost to were guys with some speed in Calzaghe and Roy. Roy won comfortably IMO.
Taylor wasn't all that but managed to get a close fight.
Pascal managed to KD him. If Hopkin's did not have his chin in the past, he would have lost more possibly.

He did make 160, but he was a big MOFO.

He would struggle with guys like Dawson, Ward and Dirrell etc... IMO.

Styles makes fights and Pascal IMO is a fighter that is suited for Hopkin's.

He said this himself, "I'm the smartest fighter", and people jump on the bandwagon. He may be smart, but his athletics >>> his smarts. He is like Conan the Barbarian (starring Arnold), who got forced into slavery at a young age, and after years of hard labor turned into a Big, strong, brute warrior. It's circumstance that got him where he is at, not independent smarts like B-Hop (who made himself into what he is).

And his outside antics reflect his smarts or lackthereof. He said it himself, he doesn't study tapes of opponents. RJJ said the same thing. That is one of the most arrogant things you can do, yet he is getting away with it. Other fighters far smarter then Floyd couldn't get away with it.
So what is your ranking then in Smarts?

Also is it not smart for a guy to not study and get an A grade?

Of course using your revision time wisely is smart in one way, but getting the result is the main thing.

I agree he is dumb outside the ring.

        Firstly Hopkin's is fairly fast.
        Secondly he has great condition.
He has decent power, and a great chin.
        He has good footwork.
        He has good reflexes.

Floyd trains and eats well pretty much all year around.
        Floyd has a good defense.
Floyd can have a good offense.

Now Hopkin's was fortunate enough to learn that Philly style huh?
Now Hopkin's is a dirty fighter huh?
Hopkin's has fought guys going up in weight?

Hopkin's has been able to use his rough house tactics, and right hand and low head for ages. It's hard to block a head and a right hand that is extremely fast.

Hopkin's fights on the ropes, and so can Floyd.

Floyd has gone up weight classes too.
Why are you stating the obvious, rephrasing what I already said. Don't teach me about Hopkins, I know he is fast, just not the fastest. Good power punch, but not one of the biggest punches around. That's what I said, no need to rephrase it with bad grammar.

Basically, Hopkin's is smart, but he has close fights. Floyd had one.

Yes but Hopkins is 46 and Floyd is only 32/33, we have yet to see how he will carry himself in the years to come, if he keeps fighting that is.

If he is competing at a world class level at age 40, I'll retract my statements in this thread and admit I was wrong about him. But I doubt it.

        • I dont get how Hopkins is the bench mark?

There are fighters greater than Hopkins will ever be and better than Hopkins ever was who didnt fight "brilliantly" into their forties.

I said Floyd is full of shit, I don't listen to what he has to say. He is like a salesman always trying to sell something. I might put a bit of thought into it to try and understand why he says certain things and present a different side that what most people think to make people think but most never take it as such.

About this specific fight so much shit has been said by both sides that I don't see how you find so much fault with one person but whatever to each his own.
            I will repeat myself...

I fully understand and dont' fall for Floyds mouth, you asked the question why do people listen to him. I just answered your question, it's because he's the loudest.

As far as what he says, I don't care, honestly I don't. It's the same reason I don't care what Arum, King or DLH says when it comes to promoting fights, that is their jobs.

The biggest problem I have with Floyd and why I have taken the "side" of Pac is because of the same question I ask all Floyd fans (not that you are one) and they can never answer.

Why should Manny submit to drug testing when there is no precedence to Manny ever doing steroids.

If Floyd wanted to fight him, he would have never started this BS. I understand having doubts about Mosley, a fighter who has had that history in his past but Manny? Why? It's because he just wants to be a ***, it's that simple. He wants to show Manny he has the bigger *** and he will set the rules but guess what, Manny doesn't need him.

So he's stuck where he is.

Then he says, he wont fight Cotto because he dont do bussines with Arum.
and Brian kenny ask him," Will you fight Pacquio", and FLoyd said, " If he wants it, he can get it too", and Brian Kenny Replies, So you are willing to do bussines with Arum now?" And then, crickets sounds. Another time he contradicts and ownes himself!!!!!

Then when he was ask, why picking on a smaller fighter, he says that Pacquiao is small too. So he admits that he is picking on a samller fighter and he admits he is bigger than Pacquiao.

Then he says he wont fight Mosley, because Mosley have 5 loses on his record. Doesnt JMM have 4 loses on his record? So WTF? again!!!!!

Then he says, he wont fight Mosley, because he beated Margaito, but Margarito beat Cotto and Cotto beat Mosley. And then he says, did I lost to one of those guys? And that **** cracked me up, I started LMAO, because OFcourse, you didnt lose to those guys, you ducked all 3.

when Brian Kenny asks floyd why he is fighting Marquez at welterweight floyd answers "because he called me out" and when Brian kenny says alot of guys call you out floyd. why arent you fighting someone like Mosley at welterweight floyd replies "because i do what i want"

And he also said "I'm coming back for legacy. Im coming back to take back whats mine by taking the toughest fights" at the announement of the Marquez fight.

But at the ESPN interview he goes "I dont fight for bragging rights"

and on 106th and Park he goes "Im coming back to do what I do best. Which is be flashy and make money

How can Floyd fans still try to defend this clown, with all the excuses and contradictions? And all his talk with out bakcing it up!

**** is funny how they cosign anything and everything he says and do!!!!!

                .

And that's was the whole point. And his longevity has nothing to do with particular physical assets either.

                  Interesting........

Why should Floyd accept the "10 Million per pound penalty" when he never weighed over the 147 limit?

                  Yet Floyd accepted.
