I didn't say he needed another tune up hell he might not have needed the one he fought, Floyd is in fine shape.
IF Floyd thinks he can sell huge numbers against any decent fighter why not try it, if he wants the Cotto-Pacman winner he will have to wait until early spring to get the fight anyways. If timed right it can all work out (and provided he can come out clean), I really do not know who he would fight maybe a solid lefty to prepare for Manny.Comment

Lets see he retired for two years, when he came into the 147 pound division Judah was the man, Judah lost to Baldomir the Floyd beat them both, then he fought a decent Oscar at 154, then back to 147 to fight Hatton who won the 147 pound WBA strap from Collazo (that vacated strap was picked up by Cotto).
Paul Williams was just comming on to the scene as Floyd retired and now he is fighting at 160, really that was two ships passing in the night. Margarito he wanted the fight no doubt but the timing never worked out and Floyd was always fighting guy that were equal to him (more or less), it was not until after Floyd retired that Margarito hit the big time with his win over Cotto. Cotto please show where there were ever real talks to make that fight take place, not jsut Arum talking **** in public. Shane and Floyd have taken turns not fighting the other.
I hope he does fight quality guys in his comeback though, I want to see how it all plays out before really judging. If you want to jump to conclusion from the first chapter by all means, but you are still playing the fool.
Right on. The guy's not finished yet, there's time to fight these guys still.Comment

Yes, and a few years ago, Bob Arum was quoted as saying, "I was lying yesterday. I am telling the truth today." Oscar De La Hoya used to contradict himself every time he opened his mouth. Oscar once said he would never fight Mayweather out of respect for his father, who was Oscar's trainer at the time. He said he was too small to fight at 154 before he fought Fernando Vargas. He said he would never fight Cotto because his wife did not want him to fight another Puerto Rican, but he was planning to make a fight with Cotto if Margarito hadn't beaten him. Bernard Hopkins said he would retire if he did not knock out Keith Holmes. He didn't KO him. That was 15 fights ago.
If you are gullible enough to believe anything that comes out of a boxer or promoter's mouth, I have a bridge that I want to sell you. Wait until the fights are actually SIGNED before you start passing judgement.Last edited by big_james10; 10-07-2009, 04:19 PM.Comment

He already made it clear he doesn't want to fight them.Comment

To me, Floyd has proven himself to be a great fighter, an ATG in my eyes... but if he beats Pacquiao vs Cotto winner and Mosley... he would be known as even greater... I mean he already has a pretty good legacy and all, but his legacy would be much greater if he beat those and would be more career defining. He is already an ATG but he could prove to be an even bigger ATG by doing this IMO.
I actually agree with you, Floyd is a very talented fighter... one of the most skilled fighters of all time IMO, but you can't just say your the greatest from that. He is already an ATG in my eyes, but he could still prove that he is even greater than people already think.Comment

I am saying I have followed Floyd for a long time, it is a totallity of what he has done.
I really do not care what Floyd has to say, as he is a poor speaker and does nto really think about some of the things he says, although I do feel him when he says I am the best. Now note that I do not agree that he is the best ever, but Floyd has devoted his entire life to boxing and worked very hard at his craft he has also accomplished a great deal, so I can understand why he would say there no one that was ever better (confidence and self belief are very big in boxing).
Anyways his career has followed a normal boxing career arc, starts out killing all sorts of tough guys in the beginning before his competition falls off a little bit in toughness but has large names.
If you have a problem with that view so be it, nbd to me.Comment
