He beat a highly regarded undefeated champ in Pavlik in his last fight.

Don't worry about the weight, the guy was a ****ing 5/1 Underdog going into the fight, and won pretty much every round.

            ^^Yep.

            And look at his opponents:

Pavlik - undefeated champion, ranked pound 4 pound.
Calzaghe - undefeated champion, ranked pound 4 pound. controversial loss
Winky - ranked pound 4 pound.
Tarver - champion and the man at LHW, highly ranked pound 4 pound.
JT - undefeated, controversial loss X2.

There is basically no one in the sport right now who has fought that kind of opposition in a row like that. Add to it all of the fights he was 40+ years and the losses were all debated and it's easy to see why he's #3.

Clinching and knowing what to do in a clinch is what so many fighters are missing, 50 years ago, alot of well schooled fighters knew what to do on the inside which is how he has lasted so long in the sport. If you looked at the pavlik fight, he fought him inside, outside, and unloaded on him several times. Very few fighters display the acumen and intelligence that hopkins does on the inside. Its why hes lasted so long, hes a throwback fighter and one of the few left in the sport period.

No other fighter in the sport at the moment is pulling what hopkins is, especially over age 40. Hopkins is alot like our Archie Moore. Not that you care about that sort of thing.

Reed Whuddaup homie? Pavlik alot of people here thought he was going to get KTFO when he fought Kelly. So to say the win wasn't that big is not fair to B Hop. he outboxed him schooled him and even hurt him once or twice. Winky at 170 aint much really but Winky needed a fight and B Hop was already at LHW so he came down 5 pounds and Winky went up 10 pounds it is what it is an ugly fight that no one wants to see ever again. Tarver got schooled and at the time Tarver was ranked in the P4P list by many. I don;t have official ranking or ring magazine to back it up but I am pretty sure he was up there at least in the TOP 10-20......Lefty

Holyfield was older and he had a contraversial lose in his last fight, he should be P4P #5 minimum. >_>

Tarver was ranked #10 pound 4 pound at the end of 2005 (december and/or early 2006) by the Ring Magazine and was the ring champion at LHW. They fought in June of 2006 so I assume he was still ranked pound 4 pound.

In April 2006 "The Ring" had Tarver ranked #8 P4P
