Cotto Refuses To Fight Pacquiao Below 145-Pounds

WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto is refusing to fight Manny Pacquiao at any weight below 145-pounds. We recently reported that Michael Koncz, adviser to Manny Pacquiao, claimed that Cotto was willing to fight Manny at a catch-weight of 144-pounds, but the Filipino champion is likely going to ask Cotto to come down to 142. Top Rank promotes both fighters and wants to match them at the end of year. Cotto still has to get past Joshua Clottey on June 13 at New York's Madison Square Garden. [details]

Hopefully this means that this fight will never happen. Pacquiao/Mayweather is really the only fight that matters, in my opinion. Cotto should re-match with Mosley, or fight with Berto.

Cotto is a man of principle. I doubt this fight happens. Which is a shame cause it would be a great fight at any weight. But his health comes first which is something people fail to realize. Money cant fix brain damage. If cotto beats clottey he could face mosley or berto after. Cause Mayweather wont fight cotto anytime soon or any WW for that matter.

If Cotto fights him below that he runs the risk of being weight drained. If i were Cotto i would either push for 147 or just don't fight and let him fight someone else.

Pac may be P4P No. 1, but if Cotto wins he will just get ridiculed for fighting a smaller guy who's been blow up in weight. He won't get much credit for winning this fight imo.

At this point in his career, moving down less that 145 could be detrimental. Besides, there are plenty of quality welterweight bouts to be made. Mosley rematch is the likey fight after Cotto loses to Clottey.
